This is my Olympics, my Football
Anyone else bored by the Olympics but in love with the DNC convention?

My husband hates politics (but he votes right, so I leave him alone). He never understood my obsession with Keith, with Rachel (mwah, love her) and with Daily Kos or DU until I finally told him, "This is my Olympics. This is my football. Leave me alone!"

Suddenly he understands.

I called him down to the couch to watch Hillary end the roll call. He objected until I said, "Listen mister, you make me watch great football plays. This is a great football play. Get down here!"

Anyone else have a spouse who doesn't like politics?

1. Hahaha. YES!
Of course there is the Tour de France.

But this is the ultimate.

I'm glad to be single. But then watching the Obama family, I've been rethinking that.

Beautiful people are quite fun to be with.

3. The Tour Rules! Viva le Tour!!!
That is the one thing my husband and I watch together. We are both cyclists.

How funny that you posted about the tour. You've totally pegged us. :D

:toast: If you marry, be sure to marry someone who will vote right, even if she (or he?) doesn't like politics. I still don't understand how so many decent liberal women can sleep with republicans.

7. Really. Don't worry about me. I don't do republicans.
I've been out blazing new mountain bike trails this week.

I'm riding the Ibis Mojo carbon. It's so cool! I love biking.

This is so exciting! To the White House!

2. My wife and I have an interesting dynamic
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 06:12 PM by GrizzlyMan
I'm a died in the wool NE Patriots and U of Oklahoma football fan and she gets into that a little bit, but mostly respects my devotion to it. We make it work. She's only recently become interested in politics and she votes Dem (otherwise I wouldn't have married her) but she always loves to tell the story of the time when we first started dating, but weren't quite a couple, and I called her at 2 am on election night 2000 when Gore decided he wasnt going to concede. She still talks about "how cute it was".

5. I'm the same way...
"she gets into that a little bit, but mostly respects my devotion to it"...

My husband loves the Patriots (lived in Boston for 15 years) and the Redskins (his hometown). He has also adopted my college team, the Georgia Bulldogs, since he went to BU.

I would never have married a person who didn't vote Dem. I don't remember when he and I had that discussion, but it was early.

What's funniest is that as anti-political as he is (the negativity is what turns him off, he's a very sweet, positive guy) his older sister is about 10x more political than I am! So she and I talk and wonder who is *really* the blood relative here.

BTW, it IS cute that you called her to tell her Gore wasn't conceding!

10. Good stuff CatBo
My best friend married a right wing Repug. Not surprisingly none of his friends (who are almost exclusively Dem) like her at all. Her father is a retired Marine colonel and she was an only child growing up so she's spoiled rotten and well indoctrinated into the right wing way. I just don't understand how my friend can stand it.

As luck would have it, we started dating during that 2000 race so it was something we talked about right away.

Good luck to your Georgia Bulldogs this year. I'm hearing good things about them!

11. Sheeyah! We're number 1!!! For now!
I'm going around being a raging Bulldogs fan while I can. I hear if you're ranked #1 at the beginning of the season, it's never good. :D

6. Not even close
The Olympics may be one billionth as significant but they are trillions of times more interesting and exciting.

Let's put it this way, I'm certainly not taping this stuff like the last two weeks.

Well, I did tape Hillary and I'll save Biden, Bill and Barack.

8. Really?
I dunno, watching guys in Speedos leap off platforms, while nice, didn't keep me on the edge of my seat like tonight's roll call did!

I guess I'm strange.
