Wow, what an exciting and frustrating day.
On our way out of Santa Fe this morning, we stopped to buy the high-speed card recommended by the Big Tent for best results. I plan to spend a lot of time there (and hopefully get a Guest Pass for Himself, too) and so I wanted to be sib on the latest tech. Expensive, but hopefully tomorrow it will be worth it.
Long, long, LOOOOOONG drive up from Santa Fe, full of lovely mountain scenery. Google pictures: Colorado Rockies. We stopped in Raton for a quick lunch--20 minutes, decent green chile--but otherwise drove straight through. No traffic at all until we got between Colorado Springs and Denver. Hey, guess what?! They picked August as the best possible time to do the annual road maintenance (re-surfacing, etc.) on I-25! BRILLIANT!!
We counted over six different versions of the Colorado state license plate. Green on white mountain profile, the same reversed, a multi-colored one, and three versions of a blue-and-white one-- Air Force, Silver Star, and "Respect Life" in the seal in the center, respectively. It's just so odd that the Dems should be here, and the GOPpies in St. Paul, where they're about as welcome as crotch lice.
We sat in traffic a lot, giving updates via phone to Elad & Hissyspit... "We're south of this exit... we're stopped in traffic... we turned the wrong way off the ramp... we're turning around... we SEE YOU!"
Woo-hoo! I have my Big Tent credential, a parking pass, and a "perimeter" day pass for today. So y'all will have to rely on Elad and Hissy for coverage of the Kennedy Tribute and Michelle's speech. They were heading over to stand in line to get in when we left to check in to our motel.
Denver's tarted up about as spiffy as a Big City ever gets. Tomorrow Elad's gonna help me figure out how to put up pictures. There are welcome signs everywhere.
We get to our motel, which is in the highly unfashionable end of town up by the Merchandise Mart, but not really that far from downtown, and there's a big welcome sign in the lobby and a cheerful young lady from the DNC with all kinds of informatin about buses and schedules and suchlike. The Comfort Inn staff are great.
After nearly an hour with Tech Support I'm finally online on the Motel's network. I'm gonna catch the rest of Teddy's speech on the TV, go feed the esposo (and myself) and ankle over to draw a bead on the Big Tent. Possibly check in and see if they have all the doin's on the big screen.
No Famous Person sightings yet, but lots and lots and lots of not-famous, very excited, very happy people with Obama t-shirts and buttons and hats and other paraphernalia.
More later, maybe from the Big Tent!
