Handy Guide to Carly Fiorina's lies, bye-bye's and job killing surprises

Carly Fiorina had a reckoning when she nearly ran Hewlett-Packard (HP) into the ditch after acquiring Compaq Computer Corp. and laying off 18,000+ HP workers (which she called "rightsizing"), but she did manage to slide out with a $21 million severance package.

Was she treated unfairly because she was a woman? In a word, no. From a review of her HP ousting:

"Her gender played no role in her failure. She misread markets, was unable to re-create and sustain a winning culture at HP and she fell into some of the same traps that many of male counterparts have fallen into; failing in a merger. Ironically, it was another high powered woman who gave Carly the boot, Patricia Dunn," says Stephens.

OK. So we all fail sometimes.

What has been troubling to many, however, is Carly Fiorina's absolute misrepresentation of John McCain's record. She was snagged for her distortions and lies on McCain's view on women's issues:

Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, the nation's leading abortion and reproductive rights group, told The Chronicle that she sent Fiorina a copy of McCain's voting record on women's health issues this week after Fiorina publicly misrepresented McCain's positions.

Fiorina made the comments - reported by the Washington Post - during a speech about women and health insurance, in which she argued that "many health insurance plans cover Viagra but won't cover birth-control medication. Those women would like a choice."

Keenan said a McCain presidency would offer women no such choice. "Obviously, she doesn't know his record," she said. "He really did vote against a proposal that would have required insurance companies" to cover prescription contraception in the same way they pay for Viagra.

Fiorina's public reassurance to a group of former Hillary Rodham Clinton supporters in Columbus, Ohio, raised hackles after she said the Arizona senator "has never signed on to efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade."

But McCain has repeatedly underscored his opposition to abortion and has said on the campaign trail that the landmark law that protects a woman's right to abortion procedures "should be overturned."

Fiorina wants to slip in distortions about Obama's tax plan with fear-soaked distortion:

On economic issues, Fiorina was lambasted by Democratic leaders - and Time magazine's Swampland blog - after she said that if the Bush tax cuts are repealed, as Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has proposed, "23 million small businesses will see their taxes raised." That's because "23 million small businesses file their income tax as individuals. And so, when Barack Obama blithely says only the wealthiest are going to be taxed, he is ignoring the fact that 23 million small businesses file as individuals," she said.

Swampland writer Jay Newton-Small called the statement "terribly misleading."

"In fact, 94.5 percent of all (self-employed) entities ... had receipts under $100,000 in 2007," he wrote. "When running HP, did 23 million equal a few hundred thousand? No wonder she got fired."

(snip)

McCain campaign spokeswoman Jill Hazelbaker dismissed efforts to jab at Fiorina as "the total distortions that you would expect" in partisan politics.

On the issue of choice, she said, "Carly was describing McCain's vision ... to open insurance markets for greater variety and competition, which would allow women to choose policies to fit their needs."

Bill Whalen, a GOP strategist and research fellow with the Hoover Institution, says Fiorina has been "a fresh face" and a plus for McCain.

1. She is no friend to American workers, much less Democrats. She needs to be exposed and the m$m won't
do it so we must.

2. "Americans think they have a God-given right to a job. They don't." Carly Fiorina,
before she sent 18000 very good American jobs overseas.

4. There is some contention that she didn't wiretap HP board members
Some have said they just wanted her gone and didn't fully investigate whether she was bugging fellow employees and HP board members. They just wanted her OUT. She grabbed the $21 million buh-bye package as an exit.

5. It was more profitable for HP to cut her that mega-million dollar check than to keep her on.
That is an EPIC FAIL.
