Did Hillary Clinton really need to add this to her statement on releasing her delegates?
Edited on Mon Aug-25-08 12:34 PM by flpoljunkie
"I will be telling my delegates that I will vote for Barack Obama. How they vote is a more personal decision. They want to have their chance to vote for me. That is what traditionally happens ... some people are having to make up their minds because there are arguments pulling them both ways," - Hillary Rodham Clinton, preparing for 2012.

77. This year was her best chance
She might give it a try again in 2016 or 2012 if the worst happens. But it won't be like Reagan getting stronger from one election to a later one. Her momentum is less likely to grow than to decrease as the Clinton presidency recedes into history.

The point is, she can ask them to vote a certain way, but she can't force them. She put that in the statement because nitpickers would try and accuse her of telling delegates to vote for her, she had to clearly absolve herself. Get over it and cut the dramatics.

65. This is and always has been all about the Clintons amibition
Nothing the Clintons have ever done is about either voters, individuals, the nation or anything other than the Clintons.

They don't give a flying fig about anything other than themselves. Period. Never have, just put on a good show that makes people buy what they are selling. It has been that way from their first moments on the political scene years ago, and not to say that some good didn't come out of the whole dynasty - mostly whenever they were in a bind, and needed to generate some goodwill fast. But still, there were very good moments.

But with this defeat, their self-concern and complete disregard of what it means to be a democrat, or to think of your nation's best interests before your own is right in our faces. More than anytime prior.

Clintons can do whatever they want - hey, go run a business like Billy is. But neither has what it takes to be a good politician and representative of the greater nation. You got to put some of this selfishness and arrogance aside to do that. Not require that people spend the first day of the convention pulling you screaming off a ledge.

Teddy Kennedy - now there is a democrat in his heart and a great statesman. Hoping hard that he can have a great moment at the Convention (I'd hear reports that he wasn't having such a good day today healthwise, as he'd hoped). Go Teddy.

but I took myself out of this race long ago. My campaign is disbanded and I now fully support Barack Obama. For the sake of this country, I urge you to join me."

How hard is that?

Until I hear her tell her supporters she is no longer running, I will look at her and Bill's support statements with skepticism.

86. Didn't she do just that, back in June?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24993082/

WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton suspended her pioneering campaign for the presidency on Saturday and summoned supporters to use "our energy, our passion, our strength" to put Barack Obama in the White House.

"I endorse him and throw my full support behind him," said the former first lady, delivering the strong affirmation that her one-time rival and other Democratic leaders hoped to hear after a bruising campaign.

...

"The way to continue our fight now to accomplish the goals for which we stand is to take our energy, our passion, our strength and do all we can to help elect Barack Obama, the next president of the United States," she said.

"Today as I suspend my campaign, I congratulate him on the victory he has won and the extraordinary race he has run. I endorse him and throw my full support behind him and I ask of you to join me in working as hard for Barack Obama as you have for me," the New York senator said in her 28-minute address. Loud boos competed with applause.

44. As said before, some wouldn't be happy unless she were on her knees before Obama.
And as usual, a couple of sentences without any hint of context - was she responding to a question, what was the question, what was said before and after this - who cares, it doesn't matter, the goal is to smear Hillary.

You know, a lot of people did vote for her, and a lot of delegates pledged to represent that support at the convention. It's not like she dreamed up the idea of a floor vote. And she does have a point.

But please, I don't mean to rain reason on the hate parade.

Carry on.

56. What part of "That is what traditionally happens" is unclear?
It's as if this was DUers first Democratic convention. The calls for narrow thought
and lockstep handwringing is quite unique.

69. At Least She Didn't Call Him Her Opponent
in this statement - Thank you Goddess, thank you for your kindness and support of The Democratic candidate.

Oh wait, there's the speech tomorrow - that's when the "opponent" remark will resurface.

76. Better focus on beating McCain.
McCain is the enemy, not Clintons. Republicans want to create problems, laughing at those who are falling for their tricks.

78. Sounds like a phrasing that was negotiated with Obama's people
I read it skeptically, but that's a pretty clear position, not a slip or fake slip of the tongue. It must be what they agreed about how to orchestrate the coming together. I'd let this one lie.

79. How her delegates vote *is* their personal decision
I don't find her words on this or like-matters, any more lawyerly or cryptic than Obama's on a host of his issues. It's time to move past all of this stuff, it's time to get busier. It's time to start focusing on McCain and whatever dweeb he brings up as VP

81. Oh Boy! Another slam against Hillary--
Is she supposed to threaten the delegates if they don't vote Obama?

Maybe she needs some thugs with machetes and boiling hot water to do the dirty
work for her.

Voting in this nation is always a private decision. When that curtain closes,
a person has the right to vote as their conscience dictates. It is the same with
the delgates. By telling them how she intends to vote, Hillary MADE A SUGGESTION, and
that is all that she can properly do.

This isn't Zimbabwe, where people are told how to vote--OR ELSE--

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/africa/06/27/zimbabwe.victims/index.html

This is the USA, where people gave their very lives and devoted their sacred honor
to defend every individual's personal rights.

Hillary would have been DEAD WRONG to tell the delegates how to vote. She suggested
that they vote Obama, and that is all that she can do.

87. No, she didn't. She' still trying to monkey-wrench Obama. Praise you to
your face while she sticks a knife in your back. I think Bill and Hillary will be surprised at how much they won't be missed when they're finally gone.

90. And, pray tell, why wouldn't her delegates vote for her?
Yeah, let's all pretend that the woman didn't win millions of votes and no delegate should actually vote for her.

How dare they?????

Same bllshit around here, just different day........
