Kerry Statement on Sen. Obama’s Selection of Joe Biden as VP Nominee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sen. John Kerry released the following statement today in praise of Sen. Barack Obama’s decision to pick Sen. Joe Biden as the Vice Presidential Nominee on the 2008 Democratic Presidential ticket:

“I am honored to express my support for my colleague and good friend Joe Biden as the next Vice President of the United States. From his championship of families hit hardest by a failing economy to his dedication to ending the misguided war in Iraq, Joe Biden is ready to help Barack Obama provide Americans with change we can truly believe in. I have had the privilege of working closely with Joe on the Foreign Relations Committee and have witnessed first hand his commitment to elevating America’s stature in the world. Barack’s vision for a better future for America is reflected in Joe’s commitment to middle class issues, understanding of international relations, and duty to country. I look forward to doing all I can to help elect Barack Obama and Joe Biden as the next President and Vice President of the United States.”

42. He knows both Obama and Biden well, and I'm sure he was key to the overall decision.
That Feb2008 copter downing in Afghanistan likely helped seal that deal.

15. He was a great surrogate during the 06 campaign as well. It disappeared because everybody
focused on the joke, but, before that, he was all around the country supporting Democratic candidates and raising money for them.

17. We're going to win.
There's no doubt about it now.

The first test of a nominee is their decison-making process and who they pick to be their running mate often makes them or breaks them.

Obama hit a home run with this decision, outta the park!

Now Hillary can flank McCain in the Mid-Central East, Bubba can be deployed along the SouthEastern flank, Clark can take the Southern flank, Richardson can take the SouthWestern flank, Boxer and Reid can take the Western flank, and Sibelius and Bayh can take the Midwest flank.

Obama! You magnificent bastard!
You're going to be the next President of the United States!!

Yes we can!!

22. Tip o' hat to Durbin, Kerry and Daschle who've been giving toprate guidance to Obama the last 2yrs.
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 03:31 PM by blm
Tackling BushInc and the Clinton loyalists successfully could not have happened without each one of these men working quietly behind the scenes to make sure Obama had a national network ready to hit the ground running. Couple that preparation with Dean's overall 50 state strategy and we will ROCK this election.

36. That decision to wrest control of the Dem party from the Clintons HAD to be made and thank undergod
these men eschewed all ego and made it for the good of this country. At some point I wouldn't be surprised if those four - Durbin, Kerry, Daschle and Dean - got together at the convention and quietly toasted to the health of the party and the country.

23. Kerry wants to have senate investigations of Bush2, and this time he'll have a Dem president
who will COOPERATE with him instead of siding with secrecy and privilege of the powerful, as we had in the 90s.

27. Probably would need an Attorney General who would be interested in doing so.
John Edwards was my choice for that job, but he seems unlikely now. Any suggestions? Kerry himself, maybe?

34. Fitzpatrick? Though, my #1 pick would be Jonathan Winer. He and Blum helped unravel BCCI with Kerry
and he understands the terror networks AND the network of government enablers and powerful financiers who have been funding those networks for decades.

I would love to see Patrick Fitzgerald as Attorney General. He was stymied in his investigations before. I would love to see him be able to act with the full weight of the Justice Department behind him.

40. oops...yep....Fitzgerald. Thanks for the correction.
He'd be a great pick. For me, the STELLAR pick would be Jonathan Winer. Of course, imagine the two working together as AG and Asst. AG. This country would have one helluva start on that road back from fascism.

I think that with dear Teddy being ill (all prayers for him), Kerry feels a real responsibility to his state. I think his desire to do as much good as he can in the Senate is sincere. And he can do a LOT of good.

I agree with you and your posts. Though I will miss seeing Uncle Ted, we are very lucky to have Kerry in the Senate. He will be an excellent asset (along with Gore, etc.) to Obama/Biden (or has already been. :)). It can only get better.

Thank you for posting it. I know Kerry is happy where he is, but I'd love to have him cloned a few times so he could serve in the cabinet and also come live in California to replace DiFi. Hey, a gal can wish!

35. Speaking of Kerry...
What position does everyone think he would have in Obama's administration? He's been one of Barack's strongest supporters on the national scene from the very beginning so I am confident Barack will offer him a cabinet position. Secretary of State or Attorney General would be pretty good. Hell, perhaps even Secretary of Defense.
