Obama has played this thing masterfully. He knew that once he told people they were not the pick, and told someone he was the pick, events around those people would reveal the truth. No one had to tell the media covering Kaine and Bayh that nothing was going on there. They saw it.

The objective signs are what revealed the choice, and they had to. How can you call in the Secret Service without letting the cat out of the bag?

It is realistic to expect this to happen the way it has. It is unrealistic to think the whole text idea would be launched before the media could figure it out. Too many people had to know, and too many things had to happen.
