Not a DU thing, it is a cultural reference as TV ads are a part of our culture.

The Holiday Inn Express ads of late feature folks who seem suddenly prepared to do something uncommon or requiring expertise because, as the script goes, "no, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night".
