still has.

I LOVE-LOVE-LOVE the fact that The NBC Nightly News led with this one. For real. This is a story that resonates so clearly and simply with so many people that even the MSM has to acknowledge it.

18. Here were some comments from a thread on TNR re hiding behind his rich wife's skirts:
Rhubarbs said:

Actually, Obama's pushback on the McCain homes doesn't attack Cindy. Unless of course McCain's idea of marriage is a lot different from a normal American's idea of marriage. I mean, it's not like McCain has to sleep in a nearby hotel when his wife stays in one of her houses, right? When Cindy uses her fortune to buy a fancy meal and a bottle of wine at a restaurant, does John bring a brown-bag bologna sandwich and a can of Schlitz because that's all he can afford on his own? Besides, Cindy isn't the one who said she didn't know how many homes she owns and had to ask her staff. That was all John, and that's what he's being hit for saying.

But even so, I'm not sure that the guy who's married to the admitted narcotics felon is wise to start a battle about wifely character. We've only ever had one president and one vice president with criminal records, and they're both Republicans. Does McCain really want to risk making the public aware that his election would give us our first First Lady with a rap sheet? And regarding patriotism, how patriotic is it to sleep with a married military officer? Especially when adultery by an officer can be a violation of military law.

So maybe McCain should keep Cindy out of it; I just don't think it's a good idea for him to hide behind her. (Besides, what kind of a schmuck would even try to hide behind his wife like that anyway?)

The kind of schmuck who cheats on his sick wife with an heiress, and then talks endlessly and nauseatingly about "honor".

Way to completely miss the point, jack ass. But, I'm sure that you knew that.

And ABC national security person said "The Bush timetable thing is EXACTLY Obama's plan..except for one very important thing. Bush's will take into account conditions on the ground. Obama's wont." Oh, Christ, guys. You better just be lying and not that fucking stupid.

The anthrax scare bit came at the end... the other piece was a lot longer and even showed a brief excerpt of obama's ad "seven". I am the first one to stick it to them, but they put it out there right at the top of the broadcast, and did not repeat Mccain campaign talking point;'they're all Cindy's houses'.

15. I heard the same crap on XM today-
"Obama made 4 mil on his book last year and was brought up middle/UPPER class, so clearly there isn't much difference between Obama and McCain when it comes to not being like us; they both are millionaires!"

What???!!!! McCain has millions and millions, lives the life of the super rich, 8+ mcmansions, private plane, etc. How do you make McMansion and Obama = in wealth? And since when was Obama upper class as a child? McCain- son and grandson of Admirals, went to Naval Academy, was a spoiled rich jerk, then married into the world of the rich and famous. The Obamas had college loans to pay off, for God's sake. When will the media stop this????????????

24. Who gives a rat's ass how many houses he owns?
Did anybody give a flying fig about how many homes Kerry has or the Kennedys, FDR, Corzine, etc.?

It's the lamest attack on McCain. Hit him on something valid, not on how many properties he owns. We have plenty of wealthy politicians in our own party.

26. That's not my point.
My point is that it's a lame attack. There's plenty to hit McCain on, but the price of his shoes and the number of his homes is ineffectual. The senate is the millionaire's club. Even Obama is now worth about 4M, so it's one rich guy attacking another who is even richer. Who is going to care?

28. McCain doesn't know his own finances. He has no idea how many properties
he owns. He called Obama elitist and out of touch. This instantly ends that line of attack for the GOP, and it's a legitimate issue, both in terms of McCain's ability to manage his financial affairs and in terms of his memory. Anyone who says that this gaffe should not be on the table is someone who wants Obama to have both hands tied behind his back.

34. No, I sort of knew what some people's motives were here. Some people
on DU will spend weeks attacking Obama for not crushing McCain, for not going on the offensive, for being weak and wimpy and not tough enough, for being a disappointing nominee. And then when a perfectly legitimate angle of attack presents itself, these same people want to instantly defuse it, always with the line: There are better things to attack McCain on than this. No, there aren't--this is the good stuff, the stuff that everyone can relate to: being out of touch, not being able to understand the middle class. But these particular DUers know that if all Obama does is just stick to dry policy differences and Senate votes, Obama will lose. Thus, they suggest Obama should do just that.

It's one thing to be filthy rich. It's another to be so filthy rich that little things like how many homes you own is too much trouble to keep track of.

The Obama ad takes a subtle swipe at his mental capacity. More like this. America is nervous at the prospect of turning over the reins to this guy, and they have good reason to be.

47. Exactly. He's out of touch.
He's out of touch of his own personal financial situation...how can we expect to hand him over the biggest economy in the world if he doesn't even know the basics of his own finances?

It has nothing to do with being rich. Everyone who runs for President is rich or close enough.

Kerry though could name every single property he owns, give you the address, and tell you the approximate worth. McCain doesn't even know how many he has.

That's the difference between the two.
