Here's the part of the Saddleback transcript where McCain describes why he'd rely on Lewis for wisdom and advice:
WARREN: This first set of questions deals with leadership and the personal life of leadership. The first question, who are the three wisest people that you know that you would rely on heavily in an administration?
(snip)
I think John Lewis. John Lewis was at the Edmund Pettis Bridge, had his skull fractured, continued to serve, continues to have the most optimistic outlook about America. He can teach us all a lot about the meaning of courage and commitment to causes greater than our self-interest.
"...McCain has largely ignored Lewis during their decades of concurrent congressional service"
Well, Senator McCain. Seeing as how you think Lewis is one of the three wisest people you know, and seeing as how he backs Obama, don't you think you should take his advice on that?
But more to the point--WHAT fucking pandering. Why is McCain trying to just throw out a black man's name and start mentioning civil rights like he's a big fan? Pandering. It's so obvious I nearly felt embarrassed for him. Is this the kind of shitty advice he's getting in his campaign? To do things like this?
