The shift in polls has me thinking the campaign should make some adjustments.
First off, redefine what it means to be a hero and a patriot. Continue lauding McCain for his service to the country during the Vietnam war. However, note that a real patriot does not question another loyal American's patriotism because of policy differences. Also, a hero doesn't do those things either. The message...McCain was once a hero but through an opportunistic mindset and by playing the same old politics, he is surrendering his claim on what virtues make up a patriot and a hero.
Second, and Senator Clinton could really help Senator Obama with this one: Give Barack Obama your campaign slogan. "Ready to Lead" should now be on every Obama sign. Senator Clinton can effectively hand this over by noting Obama's vision and aptitudes juxtaposed with those of the McCain who is clearly not ready to lead. He thinks Czechoslovakia is still a country! He can't tell the difference between Sunnis and Shi'ites! He thinks Iraq has a border with Afghanistan! He is awash in oil money. I can hear Senator Clinton making the case so clearly in my head. Obama comes out at the end of her speech, they clasp hands and raise them together.
Well, am I on to something here? I hope the campaign is listening.
