Obama team to hold 'major' event Saturday in Bayh's Indiana
Campaign officials gathering for possible veep announcement
NashvillePost.com has learned that senior campaign officials from the Barack Obama Presidential campaign are being dispatched from various locations around the country and are converging in Indianapolis for a “major event” to take place on Saturday.
Saturday is the same day that Obama is expected to make his first public appearance with his yet to be announced vice presidential running mate. Indiana is the home state of Democratic Senator Evan Bayh, widely considered to be on the short list of Democratic vice presidential contenders.
Sources in Denver, the site of next week's Democratic National Convention, say that individuals responsible for Obama's major public appearances have been pulled out of the city and are heading east towards Indiana.
where he is going to be and when. I say that because who ever the VP they are going to travel all over the country anyway. So him being scheduled to be in Indiana doesn't necessarily mean it's Bahy because Indiana is a battleground state regardless so he has to go there. Just like he has to go to Viriginia even if he doesn't pick Tim Kaine. It's funny that we really don't know what he is going to do this close to the convention.
40. One reason to be skeptical of any scoop breaking the story:
The Obama campaign undoubtedly knows the news media well enough to know what actions risk leaking the VP pick too early, and they plan things accordingly. They're not going to do something so obvious as plan a major event on VP rollout day in one of the main contender's home states.
31. Bayh is not my ideological preference, but there are at least some tactical advantages that he would
advantages that he would bring to the table.
If Obama feels compelled to pick a Senator (which I think is a bit of a mistake), Bayh at least brings some advantages to the ticket that offer some counterbalance to the disadvantages.
41. Not necessarily. They're planning a "tour" of battleground states en route to Denver, and Indiana
would simply be the first of those.
And I'm hoping it won't be Bayh. It would show spectacularly poor judgment on Obama's part, make him look like someone who wants a weak VP that he can easily overshadow. And Bayh cannot unite the party behind the ticket. You think the polls are bad now, just wait if Bayh is the VP...
Springfield, IL where Obama is holding the rally is a city of only 111,000. His staff may be converging on Indianapolis because of better connections to fly in there and then drive to Springfield. Might not have anything to do with who the VP pick will be. Who knows...I guess we will find out soon!
