Beware of Polls Based On Last Week - Not Typical
Here is my post last Friday predicting that last week would be Obama's worse week:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6638506

Okay, lets review the events of last week:

1. Obama went to "foreign, exotic" island of Oahu and hung out with his grandmother, kids, wife, wrote a couple of speeches, and body surfed while the Neocons tried to start a war with Russia. Cokie Roberts drank the GOP Kool-Aid about Obama's exotic birth place of Hawaii without mentioning that McCain was born in Panama!

2. McCain started throwing down demands and ultimatums, and no one in the MSM criticized for acting presumptuous in sending envoys. Likewise, the MSM gave McCain a free pass on the involvment of his FP advisor as a Georgia lobbyist.

3. John Edwards admitted to an affair, which dominated cable news, which asked how this reflected on Obama, rather than discussing McCain's own affair. Indeed, Bill Clinton's affairs were discussed, but no mention of Larry Craig, Foley or John McCain's exploits.

4. Corsi went on his book tour, with every network giving him a platform for his bullshit.

5. The MSM and DUers speculated that Hillary was going to pull a coup at the DNC.

6. Someone in Hillary's campaign backstabbed her, cough...Penn...cough, by releasing memos of her campaign that undermined Hillary and Obama,

7. Olympics took place (Go Michael Phelps!!!).

Did I miss anything? Really, the only thing worse that could have happened is if Obama announced that he had an affair with Hillary.

So, as I noted in my post ON FRIDAY, vacation is over. The Olympics are almost over. Its time for all of us to hit the ground starting now.

3. Np, seriously, is there anything else that could have gone south last week?
Big Media was in full attack mode, the Democrats were on the defensive, largely due to Edwards, and everyone was given McSame a free pass. That is why I predicted towards the end of last week that the week would end with Obama's lowest poll numbers. Yet, Obama is still ahead in most polls.

5. I can't remember how many times I said during the primaries "its over for Obama" only to have him
pull it out.

Bill Clinton is the best politician we've seen in 50 years. And Obama beat him.

Another thing that keeps me sane, a woman from Chicago wrote a blogger a few months back to say "I feel sorry (sort of) for Obama's opponents. They have no idea what they are in for. He's a master."

It's been a very artfully run campaign so far. He'll pull it out. (And he's still ahead in the polls)

2. One thing you missed
It didn't measure McCain cementing himself on Saturday with the Christian right and sounding a lot sharper than Obama (sorry, it's true). That should put McCain 3 points ahead of Obama. That little performance brought home those wingers who didn't trust him.

4. Of course, McCain Had The Best Possible Audience
Consider:

1. Lake Forest, CA has 2 Republicans registered for every 1 Democrat according the CA SoS website.
2. The audience was in an Evangelical Church in said heavily Republican city.

So, Obama went right into the GOP's crib, and of course, McCain sounded sharper, and his responses evoked louder applause. This was McCain's home turf. Yet, I give Obama credit for going into the heart of GOP country in an evangelical church to outreach to Christians, and I think he more than held his own. McCain offered his typical seven soundbites criply and sharply, and the audience was receptive.

Of course, if this was before the AFL-CIO, NOW or the NAACP, I think McCain would have a performance similar to his performances before the Urban League with light polite applause at best.

So, I think of last week as the great gimmee where everyone thing that could go for the GOP went for the GOP. Seriously, could it get any better for the GOP?

6. Good points all.
If this had to happen, I'm glad this it is happening now.

Another positive way to look at it: the media likes underdogs and comeback stories. They didn't have one with Obama before. Perhaps they won't be trying so hard now to take him down.
