List of VP's that would be better than Kaine or Bayh
Gore
Hillary
Biden
Kerry
Clark
Richardson
Sebelius
Dodd
Edwards (post scandal)
Bill Clinton
Jimmy Carter
George McGovern
Santa Claus
A Dead Body

I really do not believe Obama would pick somebody for VP who was anti-civil unions and who would alienate his base who has gotten him this far on thier support and hard earned dollars. It will likely be Biden, Richardson, Clinton, or Clark.

32. Here you go --
It came from his diary on Daily Kos-- (and may I say it saddens me and pisses me off, too)

Former NATO Supreme Allied Commander and 2004 Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark, a Hillary Clinton primary supporter and Veep pick favorite has been told by the Obama campaign that his services were not needed during next week's Democratic party convention.

Clark's son, Wesley Clark, Jr. relayed this information in a diary comment on Daily Kos:

For a long time but we have a very active business that he needs to travel a lot for. He wasn't invited to speak at the convention. I'm sure somebody in his office called the campaign and asked if he was going to be invited to speak because he needs to book meetings for that week if he isn't in Denver. Apparently the answer that came back was no.

It's not a fake out or some secret plan, he isn't going to be VP or probably anything else in an Obama administration, assuming he's elected.
What he is going to do is go out and campaign for Obama and plenty of Democrats in house and senate races this Fall.

I know some you think you can change this by launching VP diaries a couple times a day in hopes that Obama will be swayed by the "netroots." Dude, when has that ever worked with this campaign?

Edited on Mon Aug-18-08 05:00 PM by karynnj
Bill Clinton is not eligible because he's had 2 terms as President, Santa Claus is not an American citizen and centuries older than McCain, and a dead body may not be specifically illegal - it can't make a convention speech. If it were Edwards, look for charges to be pressed - whether justified or not - on the funds used for his mistress.

I don't think it could be Clinton or Obama would not have given so many nights to the Clintons. the convention would end up more Clinton than Obama.

Wes Clark is an old fart who half of the people on here couldnt name the war he lead without googling it. He is not here for change neither is Biden a man who has been a Senator for 36 years that not change. white people would be too scared of richardson and it will never be clinton.

8. Senator Bill Nelson - FL. ....yeah, the astronaut guy
Edited on Mon Aug-18-08 05:03 PM by trewsx11
Brings national security and foreign affairs experience, too. The same age and temperment of Joe Biden, but minus the baggage.

And he would make McCain sweat in Florida, diverting prescious time, money, and resources away from Michigan, Colorado, Virginia, Ohio, etc...

If Obama actually manages to make Florida competitive and win it, and at the same time keeping most of the Kerry states from 2004, (he can even afford to lose Pennyslvania!!!!) McCain is F-u-c-k-e-d.

When McCain digs the dirt on Biden, his plagarism (which raises questions about his honsety and character), and paint the ticket as just 2 liberal senators.

11. I would say Clark is off the list in as much as he wasn't "invited" to the convention.
It would be an "insult to Gore" to ask a man of his stature, who likely was legitimatele elected to serve as Vice.Hillary won'r be asked, Bill is ineligable and wouldn't take it anyway. Richardson adds nothing and is a buffoon but a nice guy. Carter and McGovern are too old .Edwards is now impossible. That Leaves Biden, Dodd, Sebielius, a dead body or Santa Claus. In this case, I vote Santa Claus!

AZ, and we like him. he didn't do well in NM and its his home state . So I don't see where you are coming from.Latinos won't necessarily vote for him because he is a latino and in any case most are already voting Dem so we wouldn't be "picking up" anything.

31. Yes
Be it selfish or not that is the most important to issue to me and one of the most important issues of our times. It is a civil rights issue as important as it was for African Americans to allowed the same rights as whites. It directly effects my life and my future. So I have a reason to be selfish on this.

If someone is against granting AT LEAST civil unions to GLBT couples then it says something very bad about the very soul in that person's body.

33. Wow
Blacks were fighting for rights like better jobs equal facilities and better treatment and you are comparing that to a form of marriage i now see the similarities lol. It is not more important then a failing economy or people dying for a stupid occupancy and who are you to judge ppl about their soul I think if you only focus on that issue you will get no where in politics.

34. Gays being denied their legal rights IS similar to blacks being denied their legal rights
and if someone is so hateful against another group of people that they wish to deny that group basic human rights then YES that does say something horrible about that person's soul. I have the right to judge that because I have been given a brain to process information. Just as it says something horrible about a person's soul if they were to deny a black person from sitting down in a restaurant because of the colour of their skin.

Were black rights more important than a weak economy? Are you saying there are no other senators that could both help the economy and gay rights?

Btw, welcome to DU... if this is your stance on gay rights, however, then I do not know that you will last very long.

It is a human right. The fact that you do not think so says something about you. It is a right that goes beyond the constitution and cuts to the very core of being human.

49. You don't think people get fired for being gay?
You don't think people get killed for being gay?

Most civil rights leaders see far more similarities than differences between the struggle for African American civil rights and gay American civil rights.

I will take John Lewis and Coretta Scott King's opinions on this with a bit more seriousness than I will take yours.
