2. for McCain it was only a lose lose situation

he currently has a 69-29 spread on evangelicals. He is not going to widen that. Even though he did better than many people thought there was enough there for some of that 69% to move away from him.

I think that just among the evangelicals Obama picked up 5 points and McCain lost 5 points.

8. That was my take
I figured that as long as Obama didn't make a huge gaffe, there was nothing he could say that could make a hard core fundie more pissed off. OTOH, if McSame didn't spout the party line word-for-word, he was in trouble.

13. Obama picked up a few points simply by showing up

The same would be true if McCain showed up at a union meeting - when you already own that demographic you can't push it higher only lose somebody if for no other reason that they didn't like your shirt.

6. McCain is doing better among Republicans than Obama does with Democrats.
McCain's answers should scare those PUMA holdouts right back into our camp.

7. No. McCain has reached his high point in the polls. From here on out he drops.
Especially after the Dem convention.

10. I think he'll have a brief lead after the GOP Convention
I think Obama will then proceed to gain momentum until election day.

9. I doubt it reached a wide enough audience to have much impact.
The debates will have much more.

12. No! Are people here really worried about tonight's event?!
McCain pleased THAT audience because they wanted rightwing fundamentalist conservative answers!!

That is NOT a majority of Americans!!

15. We're nervous after the past 2 elections.
We've been the victims of vote fraud, Swift Boating, and a continual barrage of FAUX News and righty radio. Air America went bankrupt, Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller aren't on in enough markets, and now we have these damn PUMAS.

Yeah, we're kinda worried :scared:

16. Okay, there is that...
But I don't think tonight's faith-fest is going to do anything for McCain.

14. It depends on who they poll. I suspect at least some fundies will
have been persuaded because of his forceful stance on the SCOTUS, but disuaded by his support for stemcells. I think we'll just have to wait and see.
