BREAKING: McCain To Advertise During Democratic Convention! *Breaks With Accepted Tradition*
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 12:53 PM by musicblind
"McCain now has enough financial resources to break tradition and advertise during the opposition's convention week," said Republican strategist Scott Reed, who was campaign manager for former Sen. Bob Dole in his 1996 presidential run.

Democratic strategist Mary Anne Marsh said the McCain campaign's strategy illustrates just how much presidential campaigns have changed. In past contests, one candidate went quiet while the other had his convention, and the strategist said she can't remember a candidate ever airing ads during the other's party convention.

"The ads are less an effort to get votes than make a point and get it covered by the national media while Obama has the attention of the nation,"

WOW WHAT A FUCKING LOSER! He has to play THIS fucking dirty just to get a heads up? No respect at all for our candidate?

I hope Barack runs ads during his convention then!

1. ...while Obama has the attention of the nation,"
McCain's sole strategy seems based around envy of Obama.

Thats not a winning strategy.

2. Let him spend his donor's $$$ on an empty audience.
Nothing more enjoyable than watching GOP bucks swirling down the drain.

5. Not even McCain is that stupid.
That's Obama's time. If McCain wants any attention a all paid to his Veep choice, he certainly won't go there.

9. That's dumb
Cause now Obama can do the same thing, probably more effectively, without any negative consequences.

31. Yeah, pretty much...
and at least, in that aspect, Obama will get a chance to hi-jack some of the advantage McCain has in getting to "go last."

10. Why on earth do you expect the GOP to "respect" the Democratic
nominee? Did they "respect" Dukakis? Did they "respect" Gore? Did they "respect" Kerry? Do you "respect" McCain?

11. I do respect John McCain. I just don't agree with him.
I have spoken out on here before against some of the unfair smears directed towards him. I think doing so gives more weight you when you point out the things he legitimately does wrong... such as advertising during the DNC's convention. That is just plain wrong imho.

13. Fine. Tit for tat, then.
Run that DHL ad non-stop during the Repub convention. And buy that guy's 'Approval Ratings' ad and run that one, too.

Two can play that game.

14. Sheer desperation on their part, imo
If they thought they were even holding their own, they would not risk doing this but, at this point, they are in such bad shape, they figure they have nothing to lose. Again, they miscalculate, they have more to lose and will find that out, imo.

16. I agree. This is a sign that they KNOW they are in trouble.
The fact that this has not been done before but is being done now is proof that this is the worse shape the RNC has been in for a very very long time.

If Obama does decide to run ads against McCain during the RNC, he will now be able to do so without criticism... AND it will hurt McCain more than McCain's ads will hurt Obama.

23. I have to admit....
even I didn't realize how badly a campaign could be run until McSame's came along. Even the bush campaign was a shining light compared to this one.

If there is a misstep to be taken, they make sure and take it, lol.

...sitting at home, watching an enthusiastic convention with thousands of supporters and have it interrupted by a McCain ad? Mr Boring himself? The contrast will just help us more.

19. Better yet - the 'Celebrity' ads?
Anyone who's been paying attention will consider them 'old news' and be bored senseless. and anyone who hasn't seen those ads will look at them and think, 'The Republicans are running on that??'

Win-win. Undecideds will get their first taste of McCain's ad campaign, and they'll see ads dripping in jealousy and envy. I hope they spend all their money running 'Celebrity' ads.

follows the Democratic convention and Obama is going to have money coming out of every pore of his body to run ads during that if he chooses.

26. Well that's dumb
Every speaker at the convention could--and should--take 30 seconds of their speech to repudiate (maybe a little mocking wouldn't hurt--what would Ann Richards do?) what ever idiotic message that McCain is spending millions of dollars on. Fabulous for us because we are so seldom given any let alone proper time to repudiate their lies and misrepresentations.

Thanks goopers!
