GOP links Obama, Kilpatrick

Tennessee Republican Party officials this week posted an online video showing Obama's kind words for Kilpatrick during a May 2007 appearance in Detroit, months before the scandal broke in January. And the Republican National Committee added Obama to a fake Facebook page on the Internet, highlighting Kilpatrick along with Chicago real estate developer Tony Rezko, recently convicted of fraud, and other figures Republicans say bring Obama's judgment into question.

"Every day Kwame is in trouble, every day he puts on that tether, every time they march him to jail is a day the Democrat Party loses favor with the voting public," said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, a Republican.

Obama campaign officials said Thursday that Kilpatrick's troubles will not derail them, and called the GOP effort an attempt to distract from Republicans' own trouble with voters.

"Michigan voters know that Mayor Kilpatrick's troubles are his own -- and that Barack Obama is focused on bringing people together to solve the serious challenges we face," said Obama spokesman Brent Colburn. "These kinds of silly political attacks don't help a single person afford health care, don't create a single job, or help a single Michigan manufacturer."

17. Can you link that many people at one time?
White Republicans could fill up an entire prison wing.

2. Also, for the TN Republicans to be concerned about a Michigan Mayor. . .
. . .shows the MOTHERFUCKERS are playing the race card.

5. I think it will all come down to
who is the most politically radioactive come November.

Kwame needs to resign now.

7. The point being that Obama has no more to answer for an outright crook like Kilpatrick
than McCain needs to answer for Mark Foley. If someone is going to link Obama with Kilpatrick, you bet your sweet bippy that I'm linking McCain to a pedophile.

Although McCain does need to answer for Charles Keating.

Obama has praised Kwame in the past and the mayor IS radioactive. For the good of the party he needs to step down.

10. Most people praised him in the past
Many are not doing that now. I think he should step down but not because he's radioactive. He should step down because it's the right thing to do for the city.

Kwame never endorsed Obama. Kwame's mother endorsed Obama after the primaries.

I'm tired of people asking Obama to run from everyone who gets in trouble but no one asked the other candidates.

13. The difference is those people who also praised him aren't running for President on their judgement.
If Obama called for Kwame to step down, that would end this. (As far as it being an issue in the POTUS race goes).

If Kwame stepped down, this would end this.

If the Governor removed Kwame, that would end this.

As long as Kwame remains governor, it be an issue the rehtugs can use.

I am not from Michigan, so I would be interested to hear from any Michigan DUers if this will effect Michigan's ability to stay blue.

14. I don't think it's that serious
It has nothing to do with judgement. He would have to be a mindreader to know what Kwame was going to do.

I agree that Kwame needs to step down but it has nothing to do with Obama. Kwame didn't even endorse Obama.

It's not an issue that Repugs can use unless you let them do it.

There are too many Rethugs that McCain is embracing to make this an issue with Obama.

Michigan's govenor is unpopular. Kwame is also unpopular. If he stepped down the Repubs would still use it just like they're going to try and use Rezko and Wright.

15. My question is "Could effect Michigan's ability to stay blue?"
Edited on Fri Aug-15-08 03:10 PM by wmbrew0206
Kwame didn't endorse Obama, but Obama did praise Kwame. From an outsider's prospective and taking off the blue colored glasses, having a Presidential Candidate, who is running on judgment, praise the mayor of your state's biggest city, who now has major legal problems, would be a problem.

I agree it is probably not a serious problem, but is it big enough that could it effect Michigan to stay blue, especially this year?

23. Still, it's not that bad
He praised Kwame long before any of legal issues occurs. It is impossible to find a politician who can't be linked to nefarious character. You keep forgetting all pictures in the previous thread of Repub. crooks. We would be pretty wimpy and weak to let them succeed with linking him to Kwame. Kwame didn't endorse him, his mother was supportive of Hillary, the Govenor is not very popular and the state is in an economic turmoil.

It may not stay blue but the blame won't be entirely because of Kwame.

16. MT reporter/blogger says Kwame may be the Willie Horton of 2008
http://www.metrotimes.com/blog/newsblawg.asp

Here's the conspiracy theory: The GOP wants to do everything it can to embarrass Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama, and a 350-pound black mayor facing multiple felony counts is a wonderful millstone to hang around the candidate's neck.

Henderson and Gaddis went so far as to muse that Kilpatrick could become Obama's Willie Horton. For those of you too young to remember or old enough to have failing memories, a bit of background: Horton was serving a life sentence for murder in Massachusetts in the 1980s, but was allowed to participate in a weekend furlough program. Horton took advantage of the furloughs to commit armed robbery and rape. Those facts — and the image of African-American Horton — were used in a devastating attack ad against Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis, the Democratic nominee running against George H.W. Bush for president in 1988.

We know how that turned out.

Not that we want to give too much credence to conspiracy theories — it may be that Townsend is just a loose cannon. And although it's a way-long stretch to be comparing the Kwamster to Horton, the conversation supports what we've been writing — that Kilpatrick's legal problems could spell big trouble for Obama. With polls showing the race between Obama and John McCain a virtual dead heat in this state, and with Michigan playing a pivotal rule in selecting the next president, the whole Kwame Kilpatrick mess has implications far beyond what it is doing to Detroit.

11. Actually, I think it means they're scared of Obama's internal polling
here in my great state.

There has been little polling done here since April, so I have no clue who's polling better.

Tells me something's afoot.

18. Boy they are desperate! Give me a break!
Brooks Patterson is a Republican prick and there has always been bad blood between he and Kilpatrick. I would bet someone could dig up crap on him too. Kilpatrick is a con artist with a gift of gab. They make it look like he and Obama are buddies and that is just wrong!

21. If I Knew That I would buy a lottery ticket.
I would hope not because we are all suffering for the jerks that voted for Kilpatrick not once but twice. It is too difficult to predict human behavior or the prevalence of stupidity. I know that people are extremely angry about this and to even attempt to link Obama to him makes me more angry than you would believe. As for the EC, who knows?
