Edwards sex lie cost Clinton the nomination says former aide
Wolfson needs to go to the retirement home for shitty campaign consultants.

Edwards had a strong following among progressives, and to the degree that Obama was recognized as more progressive than Hillary, he would have gotten Edwards votes not her. Likewise, Obama seemed to pull ahead once Edwards dropped out.

I could understand this cult of Hillary if she represented a unique set of policy positions, but she doesn't. This is just embarrassing that they keep it up.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Hillary Clinton would be the Democrats' White House nominee today if former presidential hopeful John Edwards had come clean earlier about an extra-marital affair, a top aide to Clinton believes.

"I believe we would have won Iowa, and Clinton today would therefore have been the nominee," Howard Wolfson, who was the combative communications director for Clinton's doomed campaign, told ABCNews.com.

Wolfson insisted that Edwards voters in Iowa, whose presidential caucuses kicked off the 2008 race in early January, would have been behind Clinton rather than Barack Obama.

he said, citing internal polling by the Clinton campaign.

17. the whole "PUMA" shtick looks like astroturf of the most transparent kind
I can't remember such a lackluster, lacking conviction candidate inspiring suck kamkaze like devotion before. Its as if Dukakis lost primaries in 88 and his followers were pledging to commit hara kiri to get him on as VP.

For either Hillary or Duke, I would feel about as much loyalty as I do to a good tax accountant if I backed them as candidates.

I could see Kucinich or even Edwards dead-enders, but for Hillary, it simply cannot be genuine.

18. Yeah, it can.
Though your point is certainly valid; the reason is that she was the FIRST woman candidate to get this far. That's the reason. She accomplished something no other woman had done before and had her ultimate victory snatched away. These are the same type of women that would have risked death during the suffrage movement. What they miss, is that the roads she paved have made it much easier for the next woman candidate. Now that she has gone that far, it pretty much ensures that it will happen again, and the chances are even better that a woman will succeed! And, that is a good thing. These kind of battles sometimes take small steps to victory.

24. "She accomplished something no other woman had done before" - HERE, you mean.
She's not at all special when it comes to women running for office. Look to other countries.

It's a sad commentary on this country that she's the first, and only got that close on her husband's name.

26. Where else has a woman run for
President of the United States of America? Or ran for the unofficial title of Leader of the Free World (though I personally feel that because of gwb, it will be a long time before an American head of state will be so considered)?

30. She could have won THIS battle if she had built her brief career on conviction not triangulation
The symbolism crap is childish.

Margaret Thatcher was the first female prime minister or Britain, and she did as much damage as any guy could.

Hillary was not the right PERSON for the job.

6. Never in a million years would Edwards have admitted it.
Never in a million billion years. If Hillary had had an affair, admitted it, and done so early enough, perhaps Edwards would have had his "fair" shot at the presidency, huh? No... Hillary would never have admitted it either.

7. Someone on the ABC comment board put it best
If Bill Clinton hadn't lied about HIS affair, Al Gore might be president right now. And frankly, I'm a lot more broken up about that than I am about Hillary not being the nominee.

9. BULLSHIT!
You wanna know what else cost her the nomination? Her and her campaign!

Wanna know what else? Obama's birth!

Shoulda woulda coulda.

IMO, if anything, every day Edwards stayed in, kept Hillary in the running. Super Tuesday would have ended her had Edwards not siphoned Obama votes in Iowa and NH.

from the internal polls. Check out link.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/11/wolfson-backtracks-on-edw_n_118228.html

When faced with polls that showed that Edwards supporters 2nd choice was Obama and not hill, he backtracked big time.

He also said that if hill had not cried in New Hampshire, Obama would have won. Wonder if that would be considered a sexist statement? ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Clinton beat Clinton.. Her hubris about how "it would all be over by Feb 4th", and "I WILL BE PRESIDENT"..and stuff like that and the SC stuff and the "hardworking white people"..and the "hey anything can happen..look at Bobby Kennedy" stuff..

stuff like that beat Clinton..and Obama had NOTHING to do with any of them, other than being alive and winning delegates..

time to run away while they decipher what it means.
