When you come to Colorado, you need not worry about PUMAS.
Because of this creature:

The Mountain Lion is a fearsome cat that will tear anything fluffy to shreds. It prowls at night, rummaging through homes and camping sites of unsuspecting pumas. You should have nothing to fear from pumas when the mountain lion is on your side.

Enjoy your stay!

4. Hate to break it to ya, sport
But Cougars and Mountain Lions ARE Puma.

specifically they are all "Puma concolor"

The nomenclature involved is regional dialect rather than separate species.

"The cougar (Puma concolor), also puma, mountain lion, panther, or painter depending on region, is a mammal of the Felidae family, native to the Americas. This large, solitary cat has the greatest range of any wild terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere,<3> extending from Yukon in Canada to the southern Andes of South America. An adaptable, generalist species, the cougar is found in every major New World habitat type. It is the second heaviest cat in the New World, after the jaguar, and the fourth heaviest in the world, along with the leopard after the tiger, lion, and jaguar, although it is most closely related to smaller felines."

6. We don't call them that here.
They're just mountain lions. And they tear up fluffy things.

8. Ask a zoologist who lives in your area.
Cougars, Mountain Lions and Puma are all the same exact species --and the proper classification in scientific terms is that of Puma.

23. Yep,
I think in the state of Washington they are called both Mountain Lions and Cougars.

Washington State Univerity (WSU) Cougars.

In California I think we usually refer to them as Mountain Lions.

24. As Jim works his way down Colfax Avenue . . .
Edited on Mon Aug-11-08 04:17 AM by Major Hogwash
Me and Rusty will take a break here on the lawn in front of the bowling alley here on Downing street. And this gives me a minute to remind you of Mutual of Omaha's new extended coverage. Are you carrying enough insurance for your family in case you, or one of your loved ones, is attacked by one of these creatures?

Well, it sounds like Jim has found one judging by the screams that he is letting out, so me and Rusty will be on our way.
