2. Surfin' is cool
Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 09:56 PM by Patchuli
and so is wind-surfing. I never understand the brouhaha about that nonsense with Kerry. Can you imagine * on a windsurf board without half killing himself? Can you see McCrazy out there in the waves hangin' 10? They want to play the macho games all the time but their nominee unfortunately, can't quite compete. I think the media needs to start actually letting the candidates be people because, they are.

*edited to fix the babble. Thank you for your patience*

Obama is pure class...and after the whole sad JE thing, we need that.

I'm wondering exactly who was behind this JE thing because I think it's going to hurt McSame.

7. Another positive is that McCrazed
cannot paint surfing as "elitist" in any way by their standards! heheheee Only the fact that right wingers are dorks and left wingers are generally the cool people. Gee, is this what they mean by "elitist?" We're cool and they're not? :P

33. Hawaii has been a state for a long time
and I love it the most next to California! It's just as American as Iowa!

Obama grew up there. It's home for him. The rethugs are such idiots. Maybe if they got out more...?

35. That would include every state
which was either stolen from Native Americans or Mexicans. Hawaii was indeed stolen from the Native Islanders.

But that wasn't what I meant. You knew that, right?

I know he grew up in Hawaii, so I'm hoping that means he actually can surf.

8. Mmmm, plate lunch and shave-ice. Teri chicken, cole slaw, 2 scoops rice, and macaroni salad...
... served from the side of a lunch wagon. Or maybe drop by one of the many fine establishments for plate of laulau, kalua pork, 2 scoops rice, and one scoop macaroni salad. Or spam. Eat till you sleep.

Make sure Malia and Sasha know they got roots in the Islands, too. :9 :9 :9

... which jazzed me because that's my home town. Lanikai Beach is good too, my family spent a lot of time there when I was a kid. :-)

So, Opihi, have you spotted them yet?

15. Where's the poi?
I was born in Honolulu, T.H. The T.H. ages me. Birth certificate says that I'm 1/4 Hawaiian. My grandmother, on my father's side, maiden name was Mele Kuai. My parents moved to Los Angeles shortly before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. My father had a supplier in L.A. to keep him stocked up on poi. To me it tastes like green-colored wallpaper paste.

Have relatives in Kailua. When visiting they tell me that it was fortunate that I was moved to the mainland at an early age...else I'd be speaking Pidgin English. They still want one of the islands for Hawaiian rule.

My mother's birthday is August 4th. I have two things in common with Barack Obama -- birthplace and a birthday.

Is he surfing yet?

16. Here are some pictures from Paradise...
they must be keeping the paparazzi at bay.

Some have asked if Michelle is PG...again. Is she? Wasn't John John born in the White House? Might we have a Barack Barack born in the White House. Barry Barry sounds better, but...for sure not Beriberi.

19. I don't think she's hapai--those high-waisted tops are all the style this year
I've seen a lot of blouses that are gathered under the bust -- I won't buy them because if you have any tummy at all (Michelle does not -- I do) then it really emphasizes it.

Course it would be great for them if she was, but they would eventually let us know.

As for paparazzi, unless Hawai'i has changed more than I think since I've been gone, there is still a tradition of leaving celebrities alone so they can enjoy some peace and quiet like normal people. Paparazzi would be frowned upon by both the locals and the Secret Service.

36. If he can, he should.
I don't want no pictures of him awkward on some 10' gun in 2' chop, but if he can look like the picture of him getting out of the limo as he drops in on a double head height face and carves a bottom turn then I want it to happen and be on every front page and screensaver in the country.

Look at movies like 'Step Into Liquid' and 'Billabong Odyssey' - they played to packed theaters in places hundreds of miles away from the nearest salt water (if you don't count Great Salt Lake).

Looking dorky isn't good, no matter what you're doing. Demonstrating grace and control is always cool. If Kerry's windsurfing shot had been of him smoking across 4' chop in the Gorge it would have gone over much differently.
