Documents for Swift Boat Rally!!! Proof Bush Campaign working w SBV
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 05:20 PM by DoYouEverWonder
This weekend a flyer a 'PRO USA Rally' by the Swift Boat Vets for Truth was found at Alachua Co Republican & Bush/Cheney Campaign Headquarters. The event they were promoting took place this weekend at Gainesville's Community Plaza.

The Community Plaza is owned by the City of Gainesville and any application to use this venue is public record. This afternoon I received copies of the Use Agreement for this rally.

There are four separate agreements for using the Plaza on August 21, 2004 from 2:00 to 10:00 PM and on August 22, 2004 from 12:00 to 8:00 PM. Four groups made the agreements, one each for 4 different but consecutive time slots.

The groups are:

1. Alachua County Republican Exec Comm
2. Swift Boat Vets
3. Vietnam Vets Against Kerry
4. Veterans for Bush

All four agreements are signed by Dineen Wolfersheim. Four separate checks were written by two different individuals from their personal accounts.

Here are scans of just the top page of the ACREC agreement and the SBV agreement.

It appears to me that the ACREC/BCC and the SBV's are clearly in volation of Federal and State Campaign Laws. Please spread these pics far and wide. I think we got 'em?

2. This was her statement to the Gainesville Sun
Dineen Wolfersheim, secretary of the Alachua County Republican Executive Committee, said she helped organized the event as a private citizen and blamed an unidentified "overzealous Republican" for placing the flier in the party's headquarters. She said once local Republican party officials learned of the promotion's placement, they removed it.

In addition, Wolfersheim said she pulled the permit needed for the event and helped others organize and raise money.

REC Chairman Travis Horn said he was aware Wolfersheim was participating in the event, but said she was not doing so as a representative of the party.

<snip>

"The Swift Boat Vets for Truth, Vietnam Veterans against Kerry, Veterans for Bush have asked us to participate and join them in a political rally at the downtown plaza," according to the e-mail, which is signed Dineen Wolfersheim, Events Coordinator, ACREC Secretary.

4. "REC Chairman Travis Horn said he was aware

How'd he know "she was not doing so as a representative of the party"? Did she take off her party hat?

7. It is up to Horn to make sure that all volunteers
know exactly what election law does and doesn't allow. It is up to the GOP and Bush/Cheney Campaign to make sure that all people working for them are properly trained. In a national campaign for President there is no excuse for ignorance.

There would have been no problem if Ms. Wolfersheim had rented the Plaza under her own name to do whatever she wishes there, or if the SBV had done this on their own with no help from the GOP. The problem is that she acted has the legal representative for all four groups. Then she allowed for flyers to be distributed from the local GOP Headquarters and helped with the fund raising. She sent out emails promoting the event using not just her name but also her title. Her boss admits to knowing that she was involved in the event.

We have numerous violations here and we are just scratching the surface. I wonder how many hard drives got scrubbed today?

as "having them by the short hairs".
This, and those pictures you snagged...absolutely top-notch work!

10. Wolfersheim may be in deep trouble
Violation of this coordination law can result in a jail term. I've been to training on Campaign Finance laws and how to avoid problems. I stay clear of ANYTHING that deals with the 527s to stay out of trouble.

THis was stupidity. The appearance of the GOP Exec Committee and a 527 and the same person signing for both is bad news for the GOP.

12. um...this may be a dumb question
But how come on the first one it says event from 2pm to 6pm and on the second one it says 6pm to 10pm?

Do they have to do separate ones in four hour increments?

Cyn:)

13. The city rents out the plaza
for 4 hours for $25. I don't know what happens if you want to use the place for more than 4 hours at a time. Different rules might kick in?

16. Have you done a Public Records Act request for a copy of the check?
It just might be interesting to see how this was paid for and by whom.

If it was paid for by check, who's bank account was it drawn on?

18. Yes I have copies of the checks
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 06:23 PM by DoYouEverWonder
they are personal checks from two individuals. One check is from one person, and 3 checks are from one other person. They contain personal information so I do not wish to post them in a public forum.

17. Please send me all relevant links to SBV stories. I'm compiling
a SBV-Gate file with the help of DUers as a reference for us all.

Attach as links (or ideas, tips, etc.) as replies to the early form of the file in DU Editorials:

19. Here's a few more

This one is the second page of the ACREC agreement. The second page is basically the same for all 4 agreements. 1212 N. Main Street is the address of the Alachua Co Republican Party/ Bush-Cheney Campaign Headquarters.

Dineen Wolfersheim obviously filled out the forms as well as signed them.
Seems obvious the county GOP is working hand in hand with SBV.
