Obama says McCain, not him, is the 'risky pick'.
Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 01:54 PM by pirhana
From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli

SPRINGFIELD, MO -- Obama returned to the campaign trail today, guns blazing.

Responding to a barrage of attacks in recent weeks, he linked McCain to the Bush economic policies and claimed that it was the Republican nominee who was the “risky” choice in November.

“Nobody thinks that Bush or McCain have a real answer for the challenges we face, so what they are going to try to do is make you scared of me,” he told more than a thousand people at a high school here. "'He's risky' -- that's the argument... It's like, 'Well, we don't have very much to offer but he's risky.' And let me just say, it's true that change, change is hard. Change isn't easy. And the question you have to ask yourself is, 'What's more risky?’”

He added, "We are in a time right now where it is too risky not to change. It is risky to keep on doing what we are doing, to accept the tired status quo.".....

.....Answering challenges that he is “Doctor No,” Obama countered that McCain has said no to higher fuel efficiency standards and investing in alternative energy.

1. this was my favorite line...
from this town hall...
...too risky not to change...risky to keep doing what we're doing.
I hope he keeps that message going.

9. So you were the one with the Buckeye shirt?
I was there too. We raised the roof for our guy in one of the most conservative parts of the state, didn't we? He could have had many thousands there if it had been a rally, as they had to turn so many away without tickets to this town hall event.
I feel, because he had such a great response, he will be back for a big college rally in the fall. I hope so, anyway.

I am feeling good about our prospects in MO.

28. Thanks. This was the second time I have gotten to see him--
I saw him first at a farm rally in Southern IL in October 2004, when he was running for Senate. It was a calmer meeting---when I actually got to converse with him for a few moments. That wouldn't happen anymore. I knew then he was destined for greatness, and he was ALWAYS my choice to be our nominee. I think it is impossible to meet him, and not feel that way.

I walked door to door for John Kennedy when I was 15 years old; and now I am walking again for this generation's JFK. Both times, here in Springfield, MO---a tough area for any Democrat, but I have a good feeling about making some inroads in the more rural areas of MO, which will help St. Louis and KC put him over the top.

We ARE going to win MO!

27. Wasn't it great?! We got in line about 7:20.
I was *amazed* at how quickly and smoothly they got everyone in once the door opened. Of course, after a crowd f 200K+, 1500 was probably a piece of cake, lol.

Did you notice the sorry little group of protesters across the street?

8. "He's Risky....Risky John McCain"
It has a nice ring, I'd like to hear that every 30 minutes for a change.....

Or, in CNNspeak, "Is John McCain Risky?"

(more after the break)

14. I know, but I can dream!
Moments ago on CNN:

"Is Barack Obama now the biggest celebrity in the world?"

Unfortunately, it was followed by a replay of McCain's latest hit piece.

sigh.
