McCain releases new ad comparing Senator Obama to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears
From MSNBC

The ad is here
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/

From NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro
In its latest TV ad hitting Obama, the McCain campaign calls Obama the "biggest celebrity in the world" -- and in the process shows clips of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. The ad continues, "With gas prices soaring, Barack Obama says no to offshore drilling. And says he'll raise taxes on electricity. Higher taxes, more foreign oil, that's the real Obama."

On Morning Joe yesterday, McCain manager Rick Davis compared Obama to Paris Hilton. "Barack Obama has become a global celebrity," he said. "I mean, Barack Obama has more fans across the world than Paris Hilton does. I mean, it's just an extraordinary thing. And I don't think anybody would underestimate that."

Unlike its TV ad blasting Obama (falsely) over the Landstuhl controversy, which ran just a handful of times, this new ad, the campaign says, will be cycled into the campaign's buy on national cable and in Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Northern Virginia, and Wisconsin.

*** UPDATE *** Obama camp's response: “On a day when major news organizations across the country are taking Senator McCain to task for a steady stream of false, negative attacks, his campaign has launched yet another," Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said. "Or, as some might say, ‘Oops! He did it again.’ Our dependence on foreign oil is one of the greatest challenges we face. In this election the American people have a real choice -- between Obama’s plan to provide tax rebates to American families while creating a renewable energy economy in America that frees us from our dependence on foreign oil, and Senator McCain’s plan to continue the same failed energy policies by handing out nearly $4 billion in tax breaks to oil companies while investing almost nothing in the new energy sources that represent our future."

2. Hmmm, is McCain's vision of Obama a 2' by 5' rectangle that's all shiny and reflective?

McCain is really speaking of himself, if he is going to continue the smut of the last several years.

5. A "Statement"?
The Obama campaign issued a statement in response to this latest McSame negative ad?

A "statement".

Sorry, Charlie ... not good enough.

The McSame campaign in attacking Obama at his strong point (a la Rove), his popularity, his call for change. If the Obama campaign does not strike back vigorously against the negativity of these ads, then we risk John Kerry, Junior.

Don't be fooled by what appears frivolous (Spears, Hilton), this is how perceptions set in that if allowed to go unchallenged can take hold and do serious damage.

4. Obama should release an ad showing McCain and Heidi Montag.
Heidi Montag is from "The Hills". If people think that Britney and Paris are vapid, they haven't looked closely enough at this spoiled, talentless train wreck.

McCain looks to draw a comparison between Obama and these pseudo-celebrities, while McCain actually has a connection to Ms. Montag, having said he was "honored" by her endorsement and calling her a "feminist hero."

18. Yes, Montag has been hanging out with his daughter.
There was a very funny incident a few weeks back when the paparazzi were taking pictures of Heidi Montag and McCain's daughter. The photographers were clicking away, asking Heidi all kinds of questions and were completely unaware of her new friend's identity.

I know I saw this online, but wouldn't you know that I can't find the link.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I even know this.
*sigh*

with his seven homes and $520 Ferragamo shoes.

Someone in another thread mentioned the Britney refrain and I though it should be used as musical background for a viral video on the ever-growing series of JSM III gaffes.

7. I actually think McCain's ads are going to backfire on him.
People remember the words less than the visuals and the visuals have been of Obama sinking a three point shot with the troops and hundreds of thousands of people cheering him. Is that really what they want people to remember???

8. Ding, ding, ding!
They are really bad ads.

The visuals always tell the story in ads.

The visuals in these ads are pro-Obama.

15. If it were Obama doing one negative ad after another on McCain, boy they would be on top of that
but since it's McCain whose going negative all the time, then it's okay.
