McCain's new ad...what an idiot.
The charter landed about a half-hour ago in Chicago, to news that the McCain campaign has launched what Halperin is calling its "toughest attack ad yet." But there's a little problem with this line:

And now, he made time to go to the gym, but cancelled a visit with wounded troops.

Sure enough, the accompanying footage shows Obama playing basketball ... with the troops in Kuwait.

3. Then why did McCain oppose the new GI Bill so vehemently???
Only to join in later when it became politically "convenient"???? I really can't wait until we get to a debate and Obama can squash crap like this live, on national television, and have the whole world see just how "stupified" McCain will be left looking. It's impossible to overstate just how stark the contrast will be between these two.

I'm beginning to think that is a prerequisite.

8. Ads are a waste of money 5 months out from the GE
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 02:20 AM by aaroh
People have a short-term memory. Best time to shower voters with Ads is 6 weeks out from the GE IMHO
Best thing to do right now is to raise money, ratchet up more volunteers and organize from the ground. But I can see why McCain is dumping his cash on Ads right now. GE rules says if you're opting for public financing you can not spend money already raised after the date of official presidential nomination (mid-august), or something along those lines.

swifboat ads came out when?

May 4, 2004, my friend

six months before the election

so much for the timing/memory aspect

pugs knew EXACTLY what they were doing, which was to paint Kerry into an irrevocable corner, from which he was never able to extricat himself. it cost him the crucial votes in Ohio....enough for them to rig the machines to steal the election

he even admitted it privately (the election theft)

12. mccain is a liar.
I'm sick of the whole "respect his service" shtick, by the way. He got shot down. He got taken prisoner. Where I come from, that's called "failing your mission". In a big way!

mccain's stunning level of assholery is supposedly entirely compensated for by his "heroic" service. I call it BS.

14. I still wouldn't let this fester if I were Obama--the "Uninformed Voter" will take this as gospel
Sure people in the know will recognize those basketball shots of picture of Obama playing ball with the troops. The problem is that the voters McCain is trying to influence are not people in the know.

These are the low information voters, people who don't read newspapers or blogs. Maybe they catch a bit of talk radio on their drive home from work but once they're home it's sports or sitcoms or any other sort of entertainment for them, not obsessively watching CNN or MSNBC or even FoxNews.

These are the folks who'll get an e-mail from a friend saying that Obama blew off wounded soldiers so he could spend a bit more time in the gym. They can then add it to the mental impression they got from other smear attempts, Obama is a Muslim, Obama went to a Madrassah, Obama is a snooty elitist who despises working class Americans.

We can moan and groan till we're blue in the face but if Obama's people don't slap this down hard it's going to bit him in the ass come November.

15. I think McCain's new ad is
an attempt to take down the great moment Obama had when he sunk the long shot in front of the cheering troops in Kuwait. You can't buy publicity like that.

The message behind the new ad is: "remember THIS image of Obama and the basketball, NOT the one you've seen over and over and over again where he sinks the 3 pointer in front of cheering soldiers."
