Heartland Voters Take Look Abroad
I found the end of the article to be particularly interesting...

Heartland Voters Take Look Abroad

By DOUGLAS BELKIN
July 26, 2008; Page A2

...Most fairgoers in Newton County said America's standing in the world will play at least a small part in selecting a presidential candidate. Wilma Muhn, 63, voted for President Bush in 2004 but said she will support Sen. Obama in November.

"When Bush goes abroad, you don't see people cheering. That tells you something," Mrs. Muhn said.

"The fact is, we're standing in Iraq damn near by ourselves, and there's a reason for that," said her husband, Thomas Muhn. "Our soldiers are dying because of that."

At stake is not only national pride and national security, but America's role as the global economic and financial leader, Bank of Montreal Chief Economist Sherry Cooper said in a telephone interview from Toronto. "The U.S. is seen around the world as a financial, political and economic bully," said Mrs. Cooper, an American living in Canada who twice voted for President Bush but said she will support Sen. Obama in November. "There's suspicion if not outright dislike, and I think Americans are feeling discomfort with that."

Indiana twice supported President Bush by 20 points, but two June polls have measured this race as nearly dead even. Newton County is among the more bipartisan regions.

3. It's heartening when intelligence is
utilized inspite of the fascist spittle the US mainstream media tries to force feed their audience.

5. Yes. I found it very encouraging.
They did find, however, at ONE Republican who was still going to vote for McCain, lol.

4. My God, I was just getting ready to start a similiar thread...
I think we have crossed the river Jordan, with this campaign. I am hearing the same thing. The relief and joy and pride to have an American leader cheered. It is hitting home with people. I am seeing the same thing in my small town.

Not only the way that Obama has carried himself, but the way the right has started to implode in childish name calling has finally taken its toll.

7. .
O Canada
Our home and native land
True patriot love
In all thy sons' command

With glowing hearts
We see the rise
The true North strong and free
From far and wide, O Canada
We stand on guard for thee

God, keep our land
Glorious and free
O Canada
We stand on guard for thee
O Canada
We stand on guard for thee

(learned it in 2004. And I'm also dating a Canadian for backup. If you'd ever like a crash course in hockey, just let me know. ;) )

9. So positive and full of love for country without being about war
and all that kind of crap.

another good one:

Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil;
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature’s gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history’s page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair.

In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We’ll toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who’ve come across the seas
We’ve boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia Fair.

In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair
