Wealthy billionaires are waiting for the cue to drop the 527 sludge ball..what should Obama camp do
when it happens? Mobilize an effort to pin it to McCain? Run counter ads? Will they even work this time with so many having strong support for Obama and very few having strong support for McCain?

IMO one of the best decisions Obama has made is to not take public financing. That will shore up a lot of money to respond with.

anyways

What do you think is the best way for Obama camp to defend against the Rove slime ads?

1. Start by saying "Consider the source, a republican hack."

2. Obama did the right thing not taking public financing precisely because of this.
No worries. Obama has plenty of ammunition and the funds to propel it.

3. A bit by bit debunking ad, using their own shit against them.
I'm picturing ads that use their own footage with explanations, "this is how they twist the truth".

This would be interesting to do with, say, one in four of them.

The rest could be ignored.

4. Spreading the truth about McCain would help tremendously, because
the m$m is having a difficult time doing that. Here are two websites, the first one formed because Obama didn't want 527s, the second one from a concerned, informed citizen I found on DU this morning. Spread the word!

5. probably there will be a lot of corporate money, and most corporations have foreign ties
Unlike McCain's outrageously misinformed (about America) attack on obama's statement about being a proud american and "citizen of the world" (see my post showing how mccain in fact is attacking the founders and presidents of this country through its history at http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6540949#6541658

However, when corporations start pouring unlimited money into issue ads, you have a serious issue of foreign influence and corporate influence on elections. Chrysler even, is owned by German Daimler Benz. The right is presently trying the ridiculous idea of floating a trial balloon that the German government's picking up some significant costs of the trip somehow makes obama beholden.

A corporate issue ad may or may not be attributable to mccain. But it can be attacked no matter what. And in most cases should be.

7. I think we're getting more corporate donations than the GOP because...
it looks like we may win in '08. I've heard the money for slime will come from the same sort of individuals who financed the Swiftboaters, and that the onslaught will start September 1.

6. He Will Need to Raise More Money. A LOT MORE
It isn't the ads themselves that will be the problem.
Every bogus charge they make in those ads will become "news".
The Mighty Slime Machine will endlessly repeat them for free
while having their pundits discuss them uncritically.

We will get to counter with a few 30-second spots.
Advertising time costs US a million dollars a minute.

The networks gave Bush about 4 BILLION dollars in free advertising
disguised as "news" in 2004 just in connection with the Swift Boat Liars alone.

8. I think that the truely super rich, the billionaires like Gates and others
are substantially for Obama

Its the wannabe billionaires that are for McCain.
