Any NYT fans here? Is Krugman telling the truth here:
Krugman reveals the NYT urged him to ‘lay off’ the Bush administration.

Imagine the implications of such a directive.

Didn't the NYT learn anything from the Judith Miller incident?

1. Nixon threatened the broadcast networks with retaliation via the FCC
if they criticized him. It took the Washington Post to finally bust Nixon's nuts.

3. He was expressly forbidden from calling Bush a liar in 2000

even though Bush was in fact, blatantly lying about the arithmetic on his tax and social security "plans."

Didn't jive with the corporate narrative that Gore was really the liar- and Bush was the "compassionate conservative" who would restore "integrity" to the whitehouse.

7. Oh yeah.
He cited this fairly frequently on the circuit while discussing his book The Great Unraveling, which was a prescient a set of materials that anyone's likely to read.

Also, lest we forget- the NY Times "sat on" (censored) the illegal wiretapping story in order to "avoid influencing" the 2004 election.

4. But...some say the media WASN'T protecting Bush but that Rove ran a great campaign
and the RNC didn't have to steal it through rampant election fraud, either.
