I am voting for Senator Obama but I can't afford to donate!
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 09:50 AM by Liberalynn
I have explained two or three times that I can't afford to donate right now because I am on disability and am having economic difficulties right now.

Yet they call two or three times a day every day.

Its really starting to get annoying. Why won't they stop?

It won't keep me from voting for him, but damn, I wish they would quit calling so much.

1. Have you tried calling the campaign and asking to be removed...
...from the list?

8. Didn't think about scammers
That might be a possibility. I did just call the main campaign headquarters and ask to be removed. They said it would take a week, so if I keep getting calls after that, then it probably is scammers.

I would find it very annoying, especially if it was two or three times in the same day.

9. Maybe its because I haven't donated yet that they want me too.
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 09:49 AM by Liberalynn
I think they probably got my name from the DCC list. They keep calling too.
I used to donate to them when I was working but can't afford to give to them any more either.

The ones that are really annoying are NOW and I didn't ever donate to them in the first place.

Its not that I don't still support the cause of Democrats or Women's Rights. I do still believe, its just I really can't donate funds right now.

6. If you can volunteer at a local office, that is just as good if not better
Maybe pitch in on local grassroots events in your area... sign up on www.barackobama.com and then look up events within your zip code limits.

You can tell the campaign to stop calling you as well.

7. Could you
correct the spelling of Senator Obama in the Subject Line?

Also, when they call, are you asking them to REMOVE you from their list? Then ask to speak to a supervisor just to make sure... :)

14. I am sorry about the mispelling and have changed it.
 I have called the main campaign office now, the gentleman I talked to said they would remove me, although it may take a week.

They were extremely nice about it.

Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 10:01 AM by madwivoter
you should ask them to stop calling.

I have never been called by the campaign for donations, I've been donating monthly for about 8 months.

I DO get calls to volunteer because I volunteer for the campaign.

Here's some contact info (http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/contact/):

To reach the Campaign Headquarters by phone, please call: (866) 675-2008

You can contact us by mail at:

17. I've only been called once
during the thick of the primary race. I did not donate.

I didn't donate to any candidate this cycle. Just to DU! :)

I rarely make a donation to any candidate, although I donated $500 to Dean in 2004.

Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 10:23 AM by Liberalynn
although I used to give to the Democratic Congressional Committee and the Democractic National Committee when I could afford it. I think that is how the individual candidates must get my name. I think either the DNC or the DCC must have given their lists to NOW too.

I do still try to donate to the DU when I can though.

18. local
Your probably receiving calls from the local Obama campaign office. Remember that these offices most the time are staffed 100% by volunteers. Unless your in a major city which may have a staffer or 2 in the office. Seriously try not to get to upset at their persistence.

If you can not donate financially donate your time.

Despite the focus on financial contributions a campaign can not survive without it's volunteers working tirelessly to elect a candidate.

25. That's a good point about the local offices.
I volunteered for the local Democractic congressional candidate during the last campaign cycle so maybe that is how I got on the calling list.

I will probably volunteer again this year, too.

They need volunteers more than they need money.

The Obama campaign asks me for donations a lot too. I ignore them. I've donated quite a bit already, and when I am ready to donate again, I will do so.

I have not given them any information on those calls even my address. They ask for pledges and then say they will send the information via snail mail.

As some one suggested it may just be our local office doing it too.

but a pledge for a contribution via snail mail. And when I've explained politely I can't afford it, they said "Oh not even a few dollars, it doesn't have to be a big contribution."

I get the same response from the DCC people too, and the NOW people really get nasty. At least the gentleman at the Obama campaign headquarters, I talked to was really kind and understanding about why I wanted to be removed from their list.

Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 11:15 AM by JackORoses
Be nice to the people calling you.

They are likely on separate teams working off of separate lists.
If you are an active liberal, then you have likely signed up to alot of different groups and lists which result in your name appearing in multiple places.

Take it easy.
