McCain Plays Catch-Up: Attends German Restaurant In German Village, Ohio

July 24, 2008 12:09 PM

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/24/mccain-plays-catch-up-att_n_114761.html

John McCain is still playing catch up to Barack Obama.

As the Illinois Democrat speaks before the picturesque Victory Column in Berlin today, the Arizona Republican is doing a slightly less exciting form of German outreach. He is having a lunch meeting with small business leaders at a German restaurant in German Village, Columbus, Ohio.

The presidential race, it seems has boiled down to who has the greatest German appeal. McCain's appearance at Schmidts' restaurant, a "Sausage Haus" comes after the RNC launched several advertisements in towns named Berlin.

Among the items he may have ordered include: Sauerkraut-Bratwurst Balls, Hoffbrau Schnitzel, or the Bratwurst, voted the "Best Wurst" by Columbus Monthly.

21. Sadly, no...
The Chairman of th Wisconsin Republican Party showed up in New Berlin (Milwaukee suburb) today to talk about the "irony" of Barak being off in Germany. I'm still not sure how the Repubican Chair's deliberately showing up in a town with a similar name rises to the level of irony.

2. He graduated from the cheese aisle of King's supermarket to the sausage house?
Things are looking up for him.

Hope he doesn't start acting like a "brat."

12. The Grocers' Index has indicated a sharp decline in sales of sharp cheddar
and, what's worse, a decline in fat bratwursts, too, during the past two days.

Coincidence or not?

28. I've been there too. It's an excellent place.
And to be specific, it's in the German Village section of Columbus.

If it matters, the owners are really nice people.

Too bad McSame chose their place to make a caricature of himself.

Peace.

39. On the radio, while in my minivan, every news break on the hour sends me into hysterical laughter.
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 11:27 PM by Pirate Smile
They directly put the two candidate's days together. "Today, in Berlin, Germany, Barack Obama gave an inspirational call for unity in fighting terrorism, climate change, poverty, genocide .... to a cheering crowd of over 200,000 people ... John McCain had an event with a half dozen supporters at a German restaurant, The Sausage House, in Columbus, Ohio."

I laugh so hard I cry.

I had no idea the McCain cheese aisle press conference could be followed the next day by such an event.

Seriously...he gave a speech to 6 people, which is 199,994 less than the audience Obama had in Berlin. But who's counting?

26. Is this one of these weird "association" things?
Are they trying to take Obama's triumph in Germany and somehow magically transform it into a McCain triumph?

You know, like before the Iraq war when they mentioned Saddam and 9/11 in the same sentence all the time?

The Saddam-9/11 thing was an impressive piece of subtle propaganda.

This, on the other hand is so lame and cryptic, it's a joke.

RNC Airs Anti-Obama Ads in Berlin–NO Not That One
by Shushannah Walshe

Columbus, OH–

Barack Obama may be speaking to hundreds of thousands in Berlin today, but the Republican National Committee is airing anti-Obama ads in Berlin–Berlin, Pennsylvania; Berlin, Wisconsin; and Berlin, New Hampshire that is—thousands of miles away from the big speech.

get it? They're all towns named Berlin!; just like Germany!

With clever stunts like that, how can the Republicans lose?

nb - the combined population of the three Berlin's is less than 1/10 the size of the Obama crowd today...
