Details About Obama’s Trip Abroad

Details About Obama’s Trip Abroad

Foreign policy advisers tell the press:

–Obama is meeting with a half dozen or so heads of state as well as Palestinian leaders.

–He’ll meet with lots of rival politicians in Israel: President Shimon Peres; current Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who is under investigation for corruption; potential replacements — Tzipi Livni, Ehud Barack, and Benjamin Netanyahu.

–He’ll meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salaam Fayyad. Advisers wouldn’t say whether he’d cross controversial check points to visit the authority’s de-facto capital Ramallah.

–Obama will make his biggest public appearance in Berlin, where spokesman Robert Gibbs says he’ll deliver “a substantive speech about American and European relations.” It won’t be at the Brandenburg Gate.

–Obama consulted with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as he began planning for his trip, “and had a very productive conversation.” He has also been working with U.S. embassies.

–The campaign insists it isn’t a campaign trip. “This is a trip of substance to meet with our friends and our allies,” said Gibbs.

–Advisers say Obama doesn’t intend to usurp the prerogatives of President Bush. Aide McDonough: “There’s one government at a time and one president at a time.”

–Obama will be accompanied by seasoned foreign policy hands, many of them veterans of the Clinton administration.

2. Thanks for posting this
He's going to have a great trip :-). Oh, and I read the article. What's up with the McCain campaign giving reporters a list of questions to ask Obama?? I guess they're so jealous they didn't think of this trip first.

4. Is McCain trying to make sure Obama doesn't return?
Republican presidential candidate John McCain said on Friday that his Democratic opponent, Barack Obama, is likely to be in Iraq over the weekend.

The Obama campaign has tried to cloak the Illinois senator's trip in some measure of secrecy for security reasons. The White House, State Department and Pentagon do not announce senior officials' visits to Iraq in advance.

6. He (McCain) has given up on his candidacy. He's just going
through the motions and trying to appear "with it", imo. I'm sure his campaign staff is hoping for some sort of gaffe or embarrassment by Obama.

9. McCain is dogshit.
Imagine if it was McCain going to Iraq and Obama let slip which days he'd be there. McCain would be accusing O of treason right now, and the media would be howling.

McCain's hoping for the worst. It's the only way he'll ever become president.
