12. Here's a copy of the Email they sent out .....
Friend:

We have some big news we want to share with you.

Because of your generosity and commitment, we're reporting to the press today that this campaign is in a very strong financial position.

In the month of June, supporters like you helped raise $52 million.

But more impressive than the number is how you did it. Hundreds of thousands of ordinary people contributed to building our campaign for change. Many were first-time donors, giving only what they could afford -- and the average donation was just $68.

You continue to prove what ordinary Americans committed to change can accomplish, despite the Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs funding so much of our opponents' campaign.

But we can't stop now.

It's going to take everything we've got to defeat John McCain and the Republican National Committee in November. And we can't do it without your continued support.

Can you make a donation of $25 now to strengthen our movement for change?

https://donate.barackobama.com/junenumbers

I also wanted to share with you another promising piece of news.

The Obama campaign and the DNC ended June with a combined total of nearly $72 million in the bank. It's a healthy number. But McCain and the RNC together still have a huge cash advantage, and we need your help to close the gap.

As I mentioned in my video message to you earlier in the week, we're facing a Republican machine with unprecedented resources at its disposal. The McCain campaign and the Republican National Committee finished June with nearly $100 million in the bank.

Our campaign does not accept donations from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs, and neither does the Democratic National Committee. But John McCain and the RNC have no such standards.

Along with the vast amounts of unregulated money being raised by shadowy outside groups, there's no telling how much they'll spend running attack ads.

We must work together and fight back against their efforts.

Please make a donation of $25 now:

https://donate.barackobama.com/junenumbers

I know this isn't the first time we've asked you for money, and it won't be the last.

We have developed a strategy -- a very aggressive strategy -- that will only work if our millions of supporters continue to contribute their time and their money.

We are now on the air with TV ads in 18 states -- including 14 that George W. Bush carried in the 2004 election. And in each one we're also building extensive grassroots field organizations.

It's all part of our strategy to spread Barack's positive message and compete in all 50 states.

That strategy will work, and it has to. The stakes are too high and the need for change too great. We are thrilled to be on this journey with you and thank you for all you have done so far. But victory is only possible with your continued help.

Please give $25 now:

https://donate.barackobama.com/junenumbers

We can't do this without you.

Thanks,

David

Mouths agape, shaking their heads at how it could possibly be. In June? From regular people? With no lobbyist cash and loop hole contributions? After a vicious primary season? How? How? How?

It's hilarious watching their absolute confusion over the strength of the Obama machine fund-raising machine.

The right wing since Nixon gained a generation of power through fund-raising innovation, specifically Viguerie's direct mailing strategies. Everybody in politics knows this, and considers it gospel. So, when they see a complete innovation in fund-raising such as that put in place by the Obama team, they're fucking terrified. They know that such fund-raising could transform politics in the same way, and for a generation. It just scares the shit out of the GOPers and the media elite.

Between the McSame campaign, the RNC, their 527s and all the dirty $$$ they'll pump in, Mc Same will have plenty of cash between now and November.

I hope we help BO break a new record every month. Don't forget to use DU's Act Blue page.

AFAIC, there's not enough money to win big enough, to fight the slurs, the media, and to enlighten those who continue to vote against their own self interest. I hope BO decimates any imagined estimates.

For my part I'll be making a monthly contribution, hitting the streets, the phones and whatever else I'm asked to do.

Pre-season is coming to a close. The marbles will be on the table and the lights will be on. Let the games begin...

All the best!

63. I couldn't believe that Chuck Todd seemed not impressed, saying since Obama rejected public funding,
he has to KEEP raising about $50 million every month. BEFORE this number came out, everyone was saying how Obama's fundraising was becoming weak, his small donors may be unable to keep donating, and he may raise just about the same amount as McCain in June. Now with this WAY better-than-expected number, there has to be a NEW negative spin. :eyes:

65. How about take bicycle to work donate gas $ to Obama day?
An idea to promote alternative energy (our legs!) and raise some money in July or August.

I don't have a clue about organizing that kind of thing but maybe someone here does.

71. I'm glad you mentioned this, and
I'm going to donate my last month's gas money. I've been walking / riding my bike this last month. The weather is fine, and gas is $5. a gallon. I've cut down on traffic, polluted less, and I've lost weight too!!

64. The people have spoken..
The people have spoken and have spoken with their checkbooks. And it's about time. Maybe Congress will wake up and realize the people do matter.

We really need to get rid of what we have in Washington. On both sides of the aisle.

75. First, I'm going to vote for the Democratic candidate...
I think the FISA vote cost him 20 million. He may win if the GOP doesn't hack the election. I hope that everyone who donated will register, vote, and keep their eyes on the crooks who control the voting machines...

78. Amazing - especially as people like me are holding off 'till cruch time to give him the max.
I was thinking it was time to pony up the bucks, but it looks like I can hold off for a bit and fork it over as the pressure starts to rise...

83. Awesome, looks like I can laugh at my republican friends now who doubted him
This is certainly a pleasant surprise, glad to see Obama raking in the huge amounts of cash again.

I remember last month when Obama opted out of public financing and had his worst fund raising month in a while. My republican dad was bragging "that's all because of him opting out of public financing and flip flopping", even when I pointed out that the fund raising figure was money raised in May, and Obama made his financing decision public only a day or two before announcing those fund raising figures. He was predicting that Obama's fund raising would continue to tank from that decision, I guess I have the last laugh now.

84. I quit a good paying job in corp. America
to get a masters in elementary education, at a substantial pay decrease, and I still donated to the campaign. It put me slightly deeper in debt, but my country is worth it. I encourage everyone to dig deep, our children are worth it.

.... my wife and I decided we'll cut a lunch or something now and then and send in a small donation from time to time.

It's just so important that we win this election.

Wish I could give more.

The lead (first paragraph) makes it appear that Obama is really struggling.
