Why James Rassman Is Honestly Mistaken About John Kerry Saving His Life And Kerry Is Shamelessly Exploiting The Situation
By Grant K. Holcomb
Aug 21, 2004

I do not doubt the sincerity of James Rassman.

However, my own experience and review of such part of the record as is available for review convinces me that Mr. Rassman is right about then Lieutenant John Kerry pulling him out of the water but wrong about Kerry heroically saving his life.

I was an Operations Officer for 2d Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment during the first Gulf War.

I was on active duty U.S. Marine Corps Officer for over a decade.

I have watched how men behave under fire.

It is my opinion that Mr. Rassman actually believes that he was under enemy fire and that now Presidential candidate John Kerry is shamefully exploiting the situation for personal political gain.

It is also my opinion that, if a proper investigation is conducted, that Kerry's "band of brothers" will reveal significantly embarrassing facts.

1. You mean this?
Most In-depth, Conservative, Honest News & Commentary

I guess we can add Grant Holcomb to the list of veterans who have decided to whore their honor to Team Bush and the SwiftLiars.

By the way, are there any Marines on DU who can tell us what an "Operations Officer" is (or was during the Vietnam war)? Because Mr. Holcomb wants us to believe that his status as an Operations Officer gives him the authority to judge Sen. Kerry.

"It is my opinion that ..." Mr. Holcomb will soon regret his receipt of 30 pieces of Bush silver for betraying a man who is neither savior nor devil.

5. This guy talks about his father's death. Is he blaming Kerry for that too?
Right wingers are too much.

Now Kerry is responsible for the author's father "drinking himself to death?"

When will the lies and bullshit stop from these idiots?

6. He actually makes an important point - though he doesn't realise it...
Standard tactics for ANY ambush situation, whether you be a foot soldier, or in a boat on a tight river are the same:

Clear the Kill Zone.

So, Kerry did EXACTLY the right thing when the mine went off, regardless of whether there was incoming fire, by speeding OUT OF THE KILL ZONE.

What Kerry did then is where he broke the "rules" and why he earned his medal. He went back INTO THE KILL ZONE, a potentially fatal decision.

He did so to rescue a man overboard, so even if there was no incoming fire, it was still a gutsy thing to do.

So the only argument is, was there incoming fire or not. This author says that A TRAINED SPECIAL FORCES SOLDIER, mistook outgoing .50 calibre machine gun fire, for incoming small arms fire.

Sorry, I don't believe it.

Now, the other sailors on the other boats were dealing with loud motors, and their own guns firing, and they say they did not hear any incoming fire. No real surprise there.

Rassman was ALONE in a river, a trained special forces soldier. He was FAR MORE LIKELY to be able to accurately detect incoming fire than sailors on noisy boats firing heavy machine guns.

The author of this article KNOWS that incoming fire has a totally different sound to outgoing fire, but he doesn't tell you that. He KNOWS that a green beret is a VERY highly trained soldier, trained to detect and locate the source of fire, in order to engage it.

The author KNOWS this but doesn't tell you this. The author is a fucking LIAR.
