4. McCain, yes. Obama, no.
For Obama, it has been just over 1 month
since he secured the nomination.

10. Yeah, but Kerry had the nomination sewn up quite early...
March I think. That gave him time to get through the VP vetting and make a choice by July.

16. He was the presumptive nominee the first week of March
He also announced earlier then usual to try to get more coverage. June was lost to the canonization of Reagan as an American saint and in the last week of June and into July, it was Clinton and his answer "because I could", getting all the air time. Usually it is very close or during the convention.

7. About the same.
Remember that it was only until 1984 that candidates named their VP's before the convention.

8. Yeah, but only because of recent changes.
Clinton chose Gore on July 9th of 1992.

Clinton didn't have to choose anyone in 1996.

Gore chose Lieberman rather early too.

Kerry chose Edwards in early Jully as well.

Before Gore, though, it was generally left up to the convention.

Dukakis chose Bentsen at the convention, over Jesse Jackson.

I don't know when Mondale chose Ferraro.

11. July 9, 1992
That was the day my beloved Trooper was born. He died last year on the day my daughter was born - June 8, 2007.

(Trooper was my cocker spaniel).

:(

12. I don't know if it's been longer than usual, but I know I'm ready to find out who they pick
I just hope DU spends more time bashing McCain's pick than Obama's. I'm not holding my breath on that though. ;)

17. No, first there is no set time to name running mates and it's usually a couple of weeks before the
convention. Up until about 20 years ago we would have to wait until the convention itself. I can wait. I think it's best to keep some suspense.
