Democrats to Hold Major NYC Fund-Raiser Wednesday

A pile of cash is flowing the Democrats’ way Wednesday night in New York City. Roughly 100 deep-pocketed donors are expected to attend a $33,100-a-plate fund-raiser at the Regency Hotel.

The money will benefit the party and expected Democratic nominee Barack Obama, who is scheduled to speak. Former presidential rival Sen. Hillary Clinton will also make an appearance.

The fiesta was initially scheduled to take place at the home of businessman Carl Spielvogel, a former U.S. ambassador to the Slovak Republic and a Democratic Party patron who had supported Clinton in the primary race, but the crowd got too big. “All of the Democratic heavy breathers will be there,” said one party planner.
