Rasmussen Kentucky Poll: McCain 51%(-6), Obama 35%(+3)
Election 2008: Kentucky Presidential Election

Kentucky: McCain Still Has Solid Advantage

Friday, June 27, 2008

John McCain still has a comfortable lead over Barack Obama in Kentucky despite the fact that the race has become closer by nine points over the past month. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the Bluegrass State finds McCain up 51% to 35%.

Last month, the Republican nominee led 57% to 32% before Obama clinched the Democratic nomination.

McCain has a decisive 57% to 28% advantage among men in Kentucky, but only leads the Democrat by four points among women in the state. He earns support from 79% of Republicans and a third of Kentucky’s Democrats Obama only attracts half (50%) of Kentucky Democrats and trails by eleven among unaffiliated voters.

Kentucky has typically cast its eight Electoral College votes for Republican candidates, though voters have chosen Democratic candidates who hail from southern states, such as Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter. In 2004, Bush easily won the state by a 60% to 40% margin. Rasmussen Markets data shows that McCain is given a 94.9% chance of winning in November and Kentucky is classified as “Safely Republican” in the Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power Calculator.

McCain is viewed favorably by 63% of Kentucky voters, and unfavorably by 34%. Obama’s ratings are less flattering: 41% favorable, 57% unfavorable.

5. I don't know that it's racism as much as it is plain old Pub loyalists.
Ky has always had the reputation of voting on single issue things like guns' gays & god. I've never lived there & only visited once for a very short time, but that's sure my perception.

6. Outside of Lousville and Lexington
You have about nothing but very socially conservative rural small town people.

We have our share of racists but it's more of an extremely old fashioned and behind the times thing.

Our education system largely sucks, a great deal of people don't have high speed internet, and most of the country people cannot differentiate between Louisville and New York or LA. So, we have a ton of people with a very limited perspective.

I find that the actual KKK/White Supremest types are more rare than you'd imagine is possible. Rural doesn't mean racist but it can easily mean hick/hayseed and that leads to being conservative and not trusting "city folk" of any race.

I've been all around the country and I think there are no more true racists here than any other state. We just have a very poor balance of rural and progressive people.
