Justice Dept. hiring marred by politics: probe

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush's Justice Department improperly injected politics into hiring programs, a department investigation released on Tuesday found.

A report by the department's inspector general and office of professional responsibility said members of a screening committee were asked to weed out "wackos" and ideological "extremists" who sought work in a competitive honors program for entry-level attorneys or as summer interns.

It said the committee rejected applicants with liberal or Democratic affiliations at a much higher rate than those with Republican, conservative or politically neutral backgrounds.

One candidate, a Harvard student fluent in Arabic who was at the top of his class, was put in a "questionable" category evidently because of his membership in the Council on American Islamic Relations civil-rights group.

Another candidate was described by a U.S. attorney who was asked for input as someone who "appears to favor a reintroduction of wolves" on federal lands.

That is not a snub, that's illegal. But the media is busy spinning a snub of Muslims by Obama.

The country has spent 8 years loading civil service jobs with people that care more about party loyalty than America. It's simply not acceptable to turn away the best applicants because they aren't republican enough, Christian enough... The party that said the government doesn't work has turned our nations services into non-working political hack machines. It's going to take a while to clean up all the illegal hiring that's taken place.

3. Important post. Too bad MSM won't touch this - their corporate owners won't allow it.

The Rove-Cheney administration has accomplished more than any previous Republican administration to achieve a one party state and destroy democracy in America. Starting with phony elections with creative vote counts (ala Diebold) along with the aborted election of 2000 (ala Tony "the Reign-maker" Scalia) through turning the Justice Dept into an enforcement wing of the Republican NeoCon party they have accomplished a shocking amount of sabotage of the democratic institutions in our country. Of course, taking over control of MSM (through ownership and intimidation) was an important first step starting back in the 70's. The MSM have done a nice job of ignoring the ignominious activities of the American Taliban.

BTW, What ever happened to the investigation into the purge of 9 US prosecutors at the DoJ and the 'hit list' which nobody contributed to (it just came into existence on it's own.).
