Dems maneuver for a seat in Denver at state convention

OWH news story below. Today's events. I'm home. I'm not going back tomorrow. I'm not feeling well. There was a cat fight in D-2 over Denver delegates. My friends in labor did very well. Two are close friends. About 1/3 of the Denver delegates have a labor connection.

I got Ted Sorensen's autograph. His speech at dinner was brilliant. I hope somebody got a video to post on youtube.

Ted Sorensen was a counselor to President John F.Kenndy for ten years. He was hired by John Kennedy in the early 1950's and served with him until the assassination in 1963. From the campaign of 1960, through the Cuban Missle Crisis, and during the prelude to Vietnam, He was a witness and often a participant in the critical events of the Cold War. Few have had such an unlimited access to the working of the Kennedy Whitehouse.

A native of Lincoln Nebraska he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He also attended and received a law degree of the University of Nebraska law school. He is the author of numerous books including four other books on Kennedy.

FREMONT, Neb. — Fresh-faced young Democrats jockeyed against longtime party loyalists Saturday for a coveted trip to the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August.

The competition was fierce and often chaotic as hundreds of delegates to the Nebraska Democratic Party's state convention campaigned for 24 national delegate slots.

"Denver or bust" was one potential delegate's slogan.

"Yes I can!" shouted another.

It seemed at times that all of the 700 Democrats who packed into rooms at Midland Lutheran College wanted to go to Denver.

To be a part of history, they said. To see Barack Obama become the first African-American to win a major party nomination for president, or to make sure Hillary Rodham Clinton is not forgotten.

In the end, most of the Democrats here were disappointed.
