Lieberman Skips Senate Dems' Strategy Meeting

Lieberman Skips Senate Dems' Strategy Meeting

By Eric Kleefeld - June 18, 2008, 9:05AM

Joe Lieberman's support of John McCain is starting to generate some readily apparent conflicts with his participation in the Democratic caucus. When Barack Obama's top strategist David Axelrod briefed the Senate Dems' weekly policy lunch yesterday, Lieberman skipped the meeting.

"It was my decision," Lieberman said. "I thought it would be awkward for everybody."

This begs the question: Will he start attending the Republicans' policy meetings?

1. That might be best. No sense tipping one's hand to the other party.

3. Why would this slippery turncoat motherfucker be invited to begin with? He's endorsed the OTHER guy!
Sweet Jeebus on a bike, why would you have a member of the opposing team in on a strategy meeting for crying out loud?

Does that makes sense to ANYONE with half a brain?

This guy has OPENLY SHIT ALL OVER THE DEM CANDIDATE...and he was still on the fucking strategy meeting list?

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

4. The only reason they are inviting him
is because of the balance of power in the US Senate for the next six months or so. Personally, I'd like to see him....

oh never mind!

10. Not sure
but I'd say you are stuck with him for another 4 long years. He'd be about 70 then. Maybe he'll retire.

Anyway, he is going to be irrelevant in after the new Congress is sworn in. Then they can boot his ass out and watch him crawl into bed with the Repukes.

14. That argument doesn't make much sense to me

The guy is a Republican in all but name, yet he's given top jobs by the Dems and a total free ride. It should be clear to everyone that if ever the Dems critically need his vote he'll be right there voting with the Repubs. My lord, he's campaigning and fund raising for McCain!

All the Dems get in exchange for this so-called "balance of power" is blame for the total ineffectiveness that comes from not actually having it.

Not that Lieberman is the only Republican in Dem clothing in Congress and the Senate - there're too many. But he's the most visible and gets the most print. If Dems cracked down on Joe Lieberman by stripping him of the important chairmanships etc. that he uses to support the Repub cause, it'd send a much needed message. That'd be a much more powerful thing to do than to crevenly suck up to such a Bush/McCainian weasel.

Obama will win in spite of the Dem party power elite who acquiesce to and collaborate on the entire Republican military/economic platform, differing only in a more or less token way re. so-called "values issues". Those dinosaurs will still be in the Dem party after Nov, no doubt going into more of a sleeper mode since there'll not be a Repub president to suck up to - but they won't change.

7. He knows that he's about to become irrelevant.
We only need him as an Independent. Come November, we'll have a bigger majority in the Senate and his usefulness will come to an end. Then he'll just be another politician from the losing side.

he did the right thing. Being there during Axelrod's briefing would have been inappropriate, to say the least.

Just shows the Dumocrats don't learn easily and haven't figured out who this works.

And I don't want to hear about 'slim' majorities - LIE-bermann is way beyond worrying about that

26. I'm hoping for us picking up at least 4 seats in the Senate
So, we can safely boot Joe out of the caucus. I hope Harry Reid (or the next Dem leader of the Senate) has the guts to do just that.

And, yes, I know we just need to pick up one seat to officially boot him, but I want an extra seat or three cushion just in case.
