California gave America two of the worst president in our history: Nixon and Reagan.

Also, more lynchings were performed in California than any other state.

But we more than make up for Nixon and Reagan with Barbara Boxer and Barbara Lee and the Sanchez sisters and San Francisco and Henry Waxman and those pesky Hollywood liberals and Berkeley.

And we try to make amends for our racist past every single day (see the recent ruling allowing every citizen the right to marry).

I take it you're from Texas? Perhaps if other Texans (like yourself?) made those republicans ashamed to be Americans, instead of being proud to be belligerent Texans, we'd all be better off.

BTW, people from California (and people who've moved to California) don't have such an insecure, state-self-identification.

16. Austin is a progressive city in TX

The only county not on the Mexican border with 80%+ Latinos that voted for Kerry in TX. Among many other progressive qualifications. If you're trying to kick texas out of the Union, Austin will secede from texas and the governor and state govt will have to find a new place to run the state.
