DU is a big tent like the Dem party. We have http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=245&topic_id=70880&mesg_id=70880">many beliefs (and many disbeliefs). It would be super cool kick ass if we could honor that. Thanks a billion! OOGA BOOGA SMOOGA WOOGA!

ETA: RIP Tim Russert.

1. What do you think of the new Utah plates?
I'm not too fond of 'em, but they're better than the Arches.

I still like the classic Ski Utah! ones. :)

12. when I think about it...
listening to all stations talk about Russert - there was so much we did not know about him as a human being. Like many of us here at DU, and about each other, and we are quick to judge about anyone and everything.
Not saying this to criticize, just being reminded of the Buddhist philosophy on peace and the Dalai Lama...

13. Yuh...
Bill is a Leo. They are said to make the best leaders.

McShame is a Virgo. Not to disparage Virgins, some of my best friends are ;) , but, he would run the risk of becoming preoccupied with perfecting 100 year wars, maybe arranging the Oval Office. He would definitely want to change the constitution, as Bush has attempted with some success.

18. Helderheid I love your posts greatly and have always been a big fan
However there is a huge difference between expressing your own personal beliefs which should never be attacked and are welcome to discuss in the religion and theology forum,

and an assertion that your religious beliefs have a prediction of outcome on a Presidential candidate or his/her campaign.

Once you make it part of the political formula it is part of the political discussion and it will be scrutinized as such.

By bringing in your metaphysical belief system as an indicator of our nominee it is you that put all of the people who do not value astrological "belief" in an ackward position. We either had to make a comment or to appear to agree in silence.

By posting "metaphysical affirmations" about Senator Obama in the GDP I feel that you intruded on other individuals who not only do not share your epistimological methodology but find it an assault on science. I feel that the assumptions that underline astrology are in fact harmful and posted it here as respectfully as I could http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6351917#6356779.

Anytime I encounter astrologists trying to spread their interpretation of ancient wisps of light in a public setting I make a similar comment.

My suggestion to you is that you start a group for Obama on their web page http://my.barackobama.com/page/group?q=christians&z=&state_cd= and you can share your belief system with other people with similar beliefs without public scrutiny. There are literally thousands of groups for Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists for Obama.

19. Your beliefs are fine; nobody (I would hope) would dare challenge your right to hold them. However,
Edited on Sat Jun-14-08 11:12 AM by Occam Bandage
when you leave the friendly confines of your belief community (where nobody would intrude to attack you) and evangelize in a general discussion forum, then the game changes a bit. When you post crackpot, unscientific declarations about the present and future of this race, you have to expect that people will respond. To not respond--that is, to step back and only allow other believers to respond--would give the false impression that GDP as a group approves of this; that we are a woo-woo zone where the reasonable and logical need not apply.

We honor your beliefs by not attacking your personal statements of belief, and by not interfering with your statements in the astrology group, or SOUP group. However, by posting in General Discussion: Presidential, you open your beliefs up to general discussion. I'm sorry you got your feelings hurt, but a backlash was just as inevitable as if you posted Bible Codes "prophesizing" that God had ordained Obama the next President.
