Fox Forced to Address Michelle Obama Headline

Fox Forced to Address Michelle Obama Headline
By Jim Rutenberg

For the third time in less than three weeks, Fox News Channel has had to acknowledge using poor judgment through inappropriate references to Senator Barack Obama.

The network has released a statement saying it should not have referred to Mr. Obama’s wife, Michelle, as “Obama’s Baby Mama,’’ as it did on Wednesday in an on-screen headline commonly called a “chyron.”

“A producer on the program exercised poor judgment in using this chyron
during the segment,” Bill Shine, a Fox News senior vice president, said in a statement.

1. (shrug) They'll do it again... and again... and again....
And then apologists will bitch about "why are we forcing them to ashes and potato sacks?"

And fox will keep doing it.

7. Yeah, the key to getting away with being racist is to do it constantly
That way, every time you're called on it, you just protest that people are "playing the race card again!".

6. It's the little heading at the bottom of the screen summarizing the current topic
With Fox it's usually composed of white letters in a blue background

9. chyron-noun
chyron |ˈkīˌrän|
noun
trademark an electronically generated caption superimposed on a television or movie screen.

ORIGIN 1970s: from Chyron Corporation, its manufacturer.

Chyron Corporation is a Melville, New York–based company that was founded in 1966. The company develops and manufactures on-screen graphics solutions for the broadcast industry.

In the United States the graphics (e.g., lower thirds) generated by character generators, are typically known as Chyrons, whether the equipment is made by Chyron Corporation or not. In the United Kingdom the phrase lower third is less frequently used, but like Chyron, the name Aston is used, again making reference to a manufacturer of graphics equipment.

4. Not quite an apology, but no "to those who might be offended" either. I guess that's progress.

12. I bet they thought they could be like Olbermann
His show always has some witty captions. Fox is too dumb to understand wit.

15. "A producer", so just a bad apple, eh?
"A producer on the program exercised poor judgment in using this chyron
during the segment,"

This is neither an apology nor an admission of guilt by Fox News.
They are just pointing the finger at a scapegoat. Who came up with
this chyron that the producer used?

at the scapegoat.
