Here in Seattle, the leading AM radio station by far is KIRO 710. It's a 50,000 watt flame thrower that's lead the ratings for decades. It's format has been news during drive time and talk all other hours, with an occasional football game (Seahawks).
Anyway, their 9 AM - Noon slot airs "The Dave Ross Show." Dave Ross is a center-right guy who is perceived as a "liberal" when compared to their other talk shows (except for the mostly-great Mike Webb from 10 PM - 1 AM.)
Now Dave Ross has succumbed to the delusion frequently seen in talk radio personalities that he belongs in congress. So he's running as a democrat for the district that includes the wealthy suburb where he lives. He has no qualifications, of course, beyond being a personality whose fans will vote for him. KIRO was forced to take him off the air while he campaigns, and a variety of guest hosts do his show now.
Today's guest host was a guy named Bill Press -- someone apparently well known even though I've never heard of him. Anyway, during the show he interviewed this guy from West Virginia who did an experiment. On one day, when both Bush and Kerry were in his area for rallies, he decided to go to each one wearing a campaign t-shirt from the other party. The results were not surprising.
First, he went to a Bush/Cheney rally wearing a Kerry/Edwards t-shirt. He was first asked to turn the shirt inside-out, which he did. They let him in briefly, then asked him to remove the shirt and wear a different one. He was ready for this, so he changed his shirt to one without any political statement on it at all. Finally, a few minutes later, they came and threw him out. All this happened an hour before Bush arrived, and at no time did he challenge or resist doing what they asked.
Next, he went to the Kerry rally with a Bush/Cheney t-shirt. They let him in without any trouble whatsoever and he remained for the entire rally. He said the people at the rally didn't seem to care at all about his t-shirt.
I thought you'd all enjoy hearing this validation of what we all already knew.
