McCain's Base - Solid as a Sponge
Let’s face it, folks. McCain entered the presidential race with a solid base of intelligent, politically-savvy supporters – we ignore them at our peril.

They are:

People who think gas prices are way too low.

People over a hundred who want to see that young go-getter in the Oval Office.

People who think Bush didn’t finish the job of destroying the country, and want a president who will complete the task.

People who have seen the debacle in Iraq go from bad to worse on every level, but think “another hundred years” there will turn the tide.

People who believe that knowing the difference between Sunni and Shia is not really important in dealing with the ME.

People who are satisfied with “so don’t get sick” as the definitive answer to the health care crisis.

People who are confident that a candidate who admits he “doesn’t know much about the economy” will get the country back-on-track financially.

People who think comb-overs are way cool.

People who think publicly celebrating your birthday with the president while people in NOLA are drowning personifies compassionate conservatism.

People who are struggling to make ends meet, but are nonetheless horrified at the thought of tax-cuts for billionaires being rescinded.

People who believe the next Republican POTUS will overturn Roe v Wade – just like the last GOP president promised to do, and the one before that, and the one before that …

People who are tired of working and want their jobs outsourced so they can have some leisure time.

People who see McCain as a maverick – who just “happens” to vote along party lines 95 percent of the time.

People who see the obvious logic in the statement that American workers would never pick lettuce for a paltry fifty bucks an hour.

People who believe that McCain isn’t like Bush, based on the fact that McCain says he’s not like Bush, all evidence to the contrary be damned.

People who think that spending billions on a war we’re losing is preferable to spending billions on silly things at home – such as education, infrastructure maintenance, and other such trivialities.

People who believe that the national debt is just some numbers on a piece of paper somewhere – and we can always print more money if we run out.

People who have figured out that the unemployment crisis is due to the arrogant sense of “entitlement” of those wanting to find a job and make a living.

People who realize that dumping your wife because she got fat (even if she did wait for you while you were a POW) is demonstrative of upstanding moral character.

People who were thrilled to have a president who put his foot in his mouth every time he opened it, and are ecstatic at the thought of having another!

People who believe that the current administration has done a swell job, and are anxiously hoping that someone will pick up the reins and continue to keep us “on the wrong track”.

People who think the "bomb, bomb Iran" sing-song was just – well, just so cute in a karaoke, retrospective, American Idol sort of way!

People who think it’s called the White House for a reason.

And, of course, the greatest majority of McCain supporters: People who don’t think – never have, never will.

But it's all so damn true (except maybe the comb-over part). It's horrifying that some people are so damn blind to the "maverick" McSame's prescriptions for disaster. Great post!

28. That's a great post in itself!!!
But please don't be fooled. There ARE a LOT of folks who don't think out there! And millions WILL believe the Republican propaganda machine. This is going to be a viscious election cycle; and very far from a slam-dunk for the good guys. Remember, 2004 should have been an easy victory too. Let's not get too confident.

23. While this may be an underestimate, I see those voting for McCain
in the 30% realm. Unless he comes out with something that is incredibly phenomenal, (highly unlikely), it is almost impossible for him to be elected. The man has nothing.

I listened to several of his "speeches", and I am beyond underwhelmed. He comes across like a babbling fool, has the "passion" of a 4 day old fish that has been in the sun the whole time and discusses war as if it were a game.

Just about everything that a candidate could do wrong, he has found a way to put it out there. Even his "supporters" cannot come up with anything other that a cursory round of applause based on politeness.

I have to say, I've seen a lot of candidates during my time on this earth, but if there was ever one that is worse than this one, I sure as hell can't think of him/her.

26. Excellent post as usual!
My addition would be: People who think that fighting an unneccesary war on the other side of the world helps keep "America" free.
or another version of this. People who think it is a good thing to send our young people to die in an unneccesary war on the other side of the world is good because sacrificing them keeps "America" free.

These are not our people, thank heavens.

I think you also forgot about the people who are so near to death / rapture that they don't need to worry about the temporal state of affairs, not to mention the people who are so old, they don't need to work, they just need those young folk to stay in those wage-slave Wal*E*World jobs.

Fun rant, thanks ^_^

I think you've just described a majority of the public.

The ones who hate the thought of tax increases on the rich because one of these days theuy're gonna win the lottery and they don't want the Gubmint to grab it all.

The ones who know the Liberals caused the high gas prices by blocking exploitation of ANWR and by preventing the building of new refineries with their insane environmental regulations.

The ones who know that God destroyed New Orleans because of America's sins, and who have no intention of voting for Obama because he's black he just sat there while his mullah minister called down God's wrath on America.

Those people.

34. The Right has really bitten itself in the ass.
Edited on Mon Jun-09-08 10:02 AM by Ian_rd
The Republican primary voters went and nominated a man the Republican Media Machine has been demonizing for years. Thought Providers like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, et al have excoriated McCain for his unforgivable crimes of publicly disagreeing with Bush on multiple occasions. And now the same people who trained their useful idiots to loathe McCain are now tasked with getting people to vote for him.

They are in a serious pickle indeed.

It's a perfect microcosm of McCain's overarching problem: He can't win without the brainless idiots who still lionize George W. Bush, and yet he can't win without distancing himself and criticizing Bush in order to appeal to people who aren't TFMs (Total Fucking Morons, of course).

40. Oh how I wish these were all just tongue-in-cheek...
unfortunately, they're not

I know a few people who honestly DO think some of what's on that list

they scare me

and another group we shouldn't forget...the people who don't know what McCain's stand is on most of the issues, but their Republican fathers/grandfathers/etc. always told them how to vote so that's what they're gonna do. Yes, I actually had someone say this to me.

Oh, and I'll tell you another group that really scares me....

the voters who, a day or two before Election Day...maybe even on that day itself...are still "undecided"

WTF??????

I dunno...maybe it's just me, but I would think anyone who's actually bothered to research the candidates and their positions on important issues would have a clue which way they might tend to go...

Anyway, another great read, Nance. I love your stuff

:woohoo:

42. Have you ever taken a close look at the faces of his audiences
McCain's mic could be shut off and they would still cheer. They had their minds made up before they even knew who the candidate would be. Composed primarily of democrat haters who refuse to allow dissenting information into their brains. They make the mistake of making McCain into what they want him to be rather than what he is. It's sad and depressing. The 25% less than zero.

The McCasket brigade? I can see the bumper stickers now, "I'm brain dead and I vote."
"Dead: Just too stupid to lay down." "Feeding worms is what we do best."
McCain doesn't have a platform; he has a slab.
If the founding fathers wanted a mulatto as president they would have named it the Half White House.
