I live in Portland though, where TJ's is often considered "just another soul-less corporation", and folks go out of their way to avoid it. Example conversation:

A: "I got some great organic arugula at Trader Joes the other day!"
B: "But it wasn't free range arugula, and it exploited migrant labor... maybe try Whole Foods or New Seasons or a farmer's market for arugula that doesn't leave your salad spoiled with guilt and shame?!"

I love living here, but the politics of shopping can be a tad... harsh. ;)

On a related note, would sending a carton of organic, sustainable, local labor, broccoli to the bush family be considered cruel right now?
