Obama's new DNC: No lobbyist money
Let the change begin! :bounce:

Nominee to announce new policy today
Christina Bellantoni (Contact)
Thursday, June 5, 2008

NEW YORK — The Democratic National Committee this morning will be announcing it will no longer take donations from registered federal lobbyists and PACs, consistent with Sen. Barack Obama's policy.

Mr. Obama today will announce the change -- a policy that has helped boost his own candidacy and raise grassroots money.

1. Good plan.
The more that people are involved in the party, the better. At least we don't give corporations the right to vote. Yet.

12. And he started the healing of the party *immediately* after his victory declaration...
http://www.americablog.com/2008/06/political-healing-process-already-is.html

No one is making that healing easier than Obama. Last night, after he had finished the sort of speech that leaves his followers exhilarated and exhausted, Obama did not just leave the arena. Nor did he head to the nearest television camera or the nearest fat cat.

Instead, he went to a room where the Clinton supporters had been gathered and one by one, shook the hands of the 25 people, stopping to chat with each of them.

"Chris (Coleman) walked around the room with him,'' said Stevenson, "and introduced each one of us.''

It was really pretty extraordinary.

"He shook my hand and said, 'Thank you for being here; I'm sure it's not easy,' '' said Stevenson of her meeting with Obama. "I thanked him and said that everyone involved in his campaign had been so gracious. I didn't know what to say, so I mentioned that my daughter works for a federal health clinic. And he knew right away which program I was talking about. He said, 'Oh that's wonderful.' ''

Stevenson, a feminist and Clinton supporter, had to admit this: "He's very impressive."

That's our guy! :)

22. My stepfather went with my mother
to see Sen. Obama when they were out West. My mother was keen on Sen. Obama but my stepfather was unconvinced until he heard him speak in person.

I have heard that Sen. Obama's sincerity, as in he believes what he says, is almost palpable when you are in the same room.

Nice post.

17. Woohoo...Kerry & Wellstone started one of the best trends ever...public financing will be on the
table with a majority behind it this time.

Salute to Barack!!!

Heartnods to Senator Paul Wellstone - thank you dear sir.

And salute to the early staunch advocate of public financing - Senator Kerry.

20. Didn't know Dean was an early advocate for public financing. But am glad for his conversion
The party is trending towards public financing AND open government and I cannot be happier. The backlash against the coverup wing of the party started in earnest in that 2004 primary race, and a lot of former centrists moved to the left on my priority issues, so I couldn't be more pleased that they are joined now in their mission.

Especially since their efforts are finally taking hold - and why Obama is where he is today. Couldn't have happened without all the hits great Dems before him have taken from the cretins in both parties. And we saw every one of those hits, eh mzmolly? ;)

21. Dean and Trippi made it possible by demonstrating that we could more than compete
Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 11:53 AM by mzmolly
financially with corporate influence via the grass roots/internet movement. Dean also heads the DNC (who made the decision noted above) obviously. ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Trippi

The Dean campaign, and Trippi specifically, became widely acclaimed for the innovative use of the Internet, especially for fundraising. In particular, Trippi was largely responsible for the creation of an official campaign blog, and the use of Meetup and other social networking technologies to connect supporters. Both techniques are widely utilized today by other social and political campaigns.

Trippi was a key voice in the Dean campaign's decision to forgo the use of federal matching funds for the Democratic presidential nomination, a move intended to help escape the fundraising limits the matching funds brought. The decision prompted eventual nomination winner John Kerry to follow suit and allow his campaign to remain financially competitive with Bush in the months leading up to the convention.

As you know, this move is not about "public financing" in the traditional sense of the term, it's about the public financing campaigns in a democratic fashion via the internet.

We sure did see many "hits" to both Dean and Kerry in the primary race of 04. But, you and I did come around when push came to shove, eh BLM? :D

Dean is doing an amazing job as our "leader" and without the precedent he (and Trippi) set for campaigning via the net and winning in former Red States, we'd not have a Nominee by the name of Barack Obama. Without Kerry elevating Barack into the public spotlight via the DNC convention, we'd not have a future President Obama.

I have no qualms about giving credit where credit is due, and of course I have no qualms about reminding others to do the same.

Did I forget Al Gore? He invented the internet you know?

Peace

and really started with US. I remember sending money to Ohio party though I was in SC, and other states that needed dollars, and candidacies of congressional Dems for the 2002 cycle via bartcop and DU forum activism.

It was a natural progression and Trippi barged through it and flung it wide open.

Pat us ALL on the back. The joint efforts and contributions of all of us made today possible.

I have no problem with that given Obama's ability to collect money. His organization has that down pat.

This is a good start that ought to set the RNC back on its heels.
