Nice letter from Hillary. I just received this in an eamil. Blocked out my name.

Dear XXXXX,

I wanted you to be one of the first to know: on Saturday, I will hold an event in Washington D.C. to thank everyone who has supported my campaign. Over the course of the last 16 months, I have been privileged and touched to witness the incredible dedication and sacrifice of so many people working for our campaign. Every minute you put into helping us win, every dollar you gave to keep up the fight meant more to me than I can ever possibly tell you.

On Saturday, I will extend my congratulations to Senator Obama and my support for his candidacy. This has been a long and hard-fought campaign, but as I have always said, my differences with Senator Obama are small compared to the differences we have with Senator McCain and the Republicans.

I have said throughout the campaign that I would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party's nominee, and I intend to deliver on that promise.

When I decided to run for president, I knew exactly why I was getting into this race: to work hard every day for the millions of Americans who need a voice in the White House.

I made you -- and everyone who supported me -- a promise: to stand up for our shared values and to never back down. I'm going to keep that promise today, tomorrow, and for the rest of my life.

I will be speaking on Saturday about how together we can rally the party behind Senator Obama. The stakes are too high and the task before us too important to do otherwise.

I know as I continue my lifelong work for a stronger America and a better world, I will turn to you for the support, the strength, and the commitment that you have shown me in the past 16 months. And I will always keep faith with the issues and causes that are important to you.

In the past few days, you have shown that support once again with hundreds of thousands of messages to the campaign, and again, I am touched by your thoughtfulness and kindness.

I can never possibly express my gratitude, so let me say simply, thank you.

Sincerely,

Hillary Rodham Clinton

McCain is more dangerous than anyone else. He MUST be defeated, or this country is in deep, deep trouble.

Wait, let me guess...you whine when people are mean, now you whine when people are nice. Make up your small mind.

After that, perhaps you can show me where I've been harping on Hillary to drop out. If you look I've said all along she has the right to stay in. I didn't complain about her not conceeding except in ONE post where I said she could have risen to the moment and made it about something larger than just a candidate.

You need to seriously grow up, cboy.

33. You know cboy..
1- I never asked for Hillary to drop out.
2- I never insulted Hillary (except once; I called her a **** republican after the 3 am AD, I guess you can always be forgiven for the first time)
3- I never called Hillary supporters hillbots, etc.. Always called you Hillary supporters, never a derogatory term.
4- I stood by you in some of the silly gates that BO supporters tried to make a mountain of from nothing.

Yet, don't expect me to be civil when someone is intentionally smearing Obama.

You see this is a message board; It's a bunch of ideas. When you say something productive, I'm your friend, when you say something negative, I'm your enemy, then after that you may say a joke, I'll laugh with you. I don't hold a grudge against Internet nicknames. You are what you're currently saying. Internet board is nothing more than a war of ideas. We'll agree sometimes, and we will vehemently disagree other times.

I don't take it personal.

:hi:

13. "I would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party's nominee"
These are the words we all here on DU wanted to hear! Okay, we've heard them! So, with both sides UNITED, on to what looks to an epochal VICTORY in November! And one that even Karl Rove would crap his pants at the thought of trying to steal!

14. Hm... still not admitting he won.
I will extend my congratulations to Senator Obama and my support for his candidacy....
I would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party's nominee...

Does she have to do this for legal reasons, to wind her campaign down? (i.e. "suspend" her campaign, but not leave it all together, and not use terms indicating that her campaign is over, or that he has effectively, if not completely, won the nomination?)

Or am I over-parsing?

25. As an Obama supporter I think it was a nice letter ...
and I think she did a good job of acknowledging his win. I don't expect her to say "I lost" just as I wouldn't expect that of any candidate who came so close. I look forward to her speech on Saturday.

30. I think you're overparsing. But that's just me....
He's a candidate for president. He's also the nominee of the Democratic party, but both nominees are candidates for the Presidency.

The "if" was quoting a promise she made before he got the magic number of delegates.

I received this letter too. I personally think that she did the right thing. I think she should have had the speech ready for the moment he got the magic number and gave him his due Tuesday night -- she had to have known it was coming, and had a speech prepared for it.

Let's hope that she continues in this positive note and campaigns her heart out for Obama without wanting something in return except a Democrat in the White House.
