3. No.
I do not get this vibe. As old and unhealthy as he seems, sounds, and looks--

--who else do they have, waiting in the wings? As pathetic as it seems, John McCain is the BEST THEY'VE GOT!

28. Right, so we must keep the GOP out of the White House.
Because of them, thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have died. The members of the Bushler administration are mass murderers. John McCain WILL continue their evil deeds.

32. Unless the Goopers are ready to lose big, they may go to John
and say..Look..You are NOT going to win..here's what we're offering.. Sec of Defense or Sec of State..and you'll bow out due to minor health issues...

In your place we are running Romney/Gingrich

I can see it happening..

I have felt that his heart's just not in it this time around..he's robotic..just going through the motions..

He may already "know" he's not going to be IT.. All throughout the campaign they are still calling him the "presumptive" nominee..and they never did that with Bush or any other candidate I can recall..

He's not raising money, he's getting heckled everywhere he goes...his speeches are bigger snoozers than Dole's were..

The shortened campaign has made Obama's people try to run three races at once, and probably most of their efforts have been vs Mccain..Repubes were READY for Hillary, and SHE did all their heavy lifting regarding research on Obama, so they are ready to go..

Imagine if they do a switcheroo on us, and we have to start from square one after their convention...especially if Hillary's folks are still being pissy..

8. a friend
who has been *around* a very, very long time has said the same thing. McC will be out for health reasons at some point, and someone else charismatic will be put in place instead. I think the RNC is trying to figure out who the heck it will be.

Maybe, maybe not. But this friend usually knows some serious insider info.

12. If it's anyone, it should be Huckabee.
Although I hope it isn't just because he would probably be a tougher opponent for Obama. lol

Thing is, if they switch now, Republicans will look like as big a mess as the Democrats supposedly look like right now. The Republicans are supposed to be the united ones, remember? If they crack, they're toast, and they know it. McCain will likely have to succumb to something pretty damn bad for him to be replaced.

14. friend says
Fred Thompson.

Yes, Fred's dull as dirt, but somehow it seems as if there is someone "there" behind the eyes, whereas with McC, he seems empty rather frightening. Fred's also smarter than McC.

21. Yikes. Hella yikes. I think Obama could take him too.
He's a smart fellow, but he's a little on the extreme side. Even the Republicans have seen the danger of moving too far to the right anymore. And I hate to say this because it's so damn cliche, but Thompson just isn't a damn bit "Presidential." lol

10. Unless he keels over, then no, I think they're stuck with him.
I think Republicans are warming up to the fact that they are likely going to lose with him, and they will DEFINITELY lose if they try to switch horses in mid-stream as well. Basically, they were fucked out of the gate. They didn't have a single candidate who had a chance, really. Except maybe Huckabee. In fact, he really is the only one in my opinion who would have had a fighting chance in the GE. He seems to speak most to core Republican values. I don't get why he didn't win the nom.

11. After seeing that dreadful spectacle tonight the thought did pass my mind...
...he really was a caricature of himself. I think they might try to shift Romney into position before November. But in my opinion Romney is just a plastic doll, you know, all hollow in the inside. He's wishy washy on issues too.

15. maybe the GOP doesn't want it - after all, DEMS usually clean up the catastrophes
and DEMS get blamed for taxes etc.

Then the GOP will come back in and redistribute to the rich again.

16. McCain was chosen last year.
He was the only potential candidate at the time who went to Davos.

The other people who ran for office were test subjects to see what issues stuck, which personalities did well.

I think they're going to concede 2008 and watch as all of Bush's disasters collide during Obama's presidency.

For 2012, they can run as the underdog with a huge pile of blame for stuff he couldn't control thanks to the 8 year nightmare he was handed.

No, I think McCain is going to be fine. I'll be interested to see who they use as the VP. That should be a good indicator of their 2012 plans. They don't have anybody that could step in at this point that people would love across the country. They know they're in trouble.

It all comes down to how hard do they cheat. A little to test their techniques, or do they go nuts and really try to steal the 20% they'll probably need?

i think obama may be able to heal a lot of diplomatic discord just by not being bush
i think if he plays fair with our allies they will play fair with us
and opening discussion with non allies like cuba and venezuela or iran only helps us

26. Unfortunately, the rest of the world doesn't get a vote.

He could be the best president we've ever seen, but if enough stuff goes wrong thanks to the landmines left behind by Bush he'll still lose to the morons in 2012. Hannity and his kind will go on a two year vacation, lay low, talk about the repression by the dirty liberals.

Look at 2000. Nobody in their right mind would have voted for Bush. But if you come up with enough bullshit and confuse enough people, you have a shot. These people all went underground and pouted during 1992-2000. It's when hate radio really took off. It's when we had the militias and the anti-government groups making news. McVeigh? What?

I will never forget working in a tiny store back in the early 90's. This guy came in and wanted to pay with a check that had no name, no address, just a phone number on it. I said no. The owner heard me and over the wall said "Is that Mike?" The customer said yes, and the owner said the check is good, sell him whatever he wants. It turns out the guy ran the gun shop in town, and his #1 selling item was equipment to safely bury guns. People had convinced themselves that Clinton was going to come take their guns. These people came out of the woodwork when Bush took office. Look at Blackwater and the other "defense contractors" that had $50,000,000 contracts and 4 employees. They'll go back into hiding if we win in November.

20. :ast night I had the strangest dream
Last night I had the strangest dream
I'd ever dreamed before
I dreamed the world had all agreed
To put an end to war

I dreamed I saw a mighty room
Filled with women and men
And the paper they were signing said
They'd never fight again

And when the paper was all signed
And a million copies made
They all joined hands and bowed their heads
And grateful pray'rs were prayed

And the people in the streets below
Were dancing 'round and 'round
While swords and guns and uniforms
Were scattered on the ground

Last night I had the strangest dream
I'd never dreamed before
I dreamed the world had all agreed
To put an end to war.

24. Exactly. They are gonna gun for Congressional seats.
They kind of remind me of brown recluse spiders... they will go into hiding and wait patiently for the opportunity to strike again. To them, it's all about opportunity and they know it isn't right now. They accepted their defeat in 96 pretty damn well, probably because they were already building a plan to take down Clinton from within. Sigh... I don't trust those bastards for a second.

...on us, weak mainstream ignorant repugs would probably vote for him. You're right. Huckabee might be their best bet if gramps deflates for some reason.

27. Huckabee would definitely be a nightmare, but he connects well with
red state conservatives and would carry those states easily. It would definitely knock out Obama's chances of flipping certain swing states, and that's what I'm really afraid of.

But this is conjecture at this point. McCain will be fine to run. I'm really not worried about that. He hasn't had to work very hard at all at this point, so he's nice and rested for the GE.
