Last time an unexperienced politician from Illinois
Won the Presidency was a fellow by the name of Abraham Lincoln. And he was not ready to be president either. Right? Obama has talked the talk and walked the walk. He fought tooth and nail for the under privileged in Illinois for years. I live in Illinois and have followed his career. He speaks from the heart and not just the platitudes that the masses want to hear.

2. And on a lighter note
The Cubs are the best team in baseball. I think that bodes well for the junior Senator from Illinois. Go Cubs!!!!! This may be the wrong forum but hey it has to be said.

51. As a Reds fan who grew up near Cincy
I'm used to rooting on winners from way down in the cellar. lol Although the Cubs games were always fun to go to growing up because of the friendly rivalry with the visiting fans, I do love seeing teams break their curses. :)

Watch him destroy your great you pitchers like he did Prior and Wood. I would love to take a trip to the Queen city to see your new ballpark. It looks great, and I hear Cincy is a great city. Maybe this summer.

The last time an inexperienced politician from Illinois won the presidency, the union disintegrated. Don't let it happen again!

5. Yep.
The parties have pretty much flip-flopped. The "solid South" once voted Democratic and now votes Republican, although hopefully Obama can give us a chance to steal some states since McCain is not liked by southern Christians.

54. The Democrats lost the South
When LBJ signed the Civil rights act. That was when the Dems changed to Republicans. Do you think it is a coincidence that Reagan announced his candidacy in Philadelphia, Mississippi? If you don't know what happened there, look it up. It was a wink, wink, nudge, nudge (to quote from Monty Python) to the Republicans that he would change things back to the way things were before LBJ signed the Civil rights act.

He had one of the most corrupt administrations up to that time. I don't blame him, he was not a politician and to trusting of his cabinet, and he liked his whiskey a little to much. Read his biography written with the help of the greatest American author Mark Twain

23. Yes but he cut his political teeth in Illinois
The man taught law at one of the best schools in the country, University of Chicago. He also fought for civil rights before entering politics. He is truly a man of the people. I never said he was Lincoln, I merely compared his "inexperience" with Lincoln's. I have a degree in history so I am aware of the differences.

Tennesee. He came to Illinois as a young man. On the other hand Reagan was born and raised in Illinois and went to California as a young man. What state you represent is what state you run from. Hence Lincoln was from Illinois, Reagan was from California and Obama is from Illinois.

38. Yup
But they made their political fortunes in the Land of Lincoln. And Lincoln was not from Illinois either. As far as I am concerned an American is an American. We just have the privilege of having him cut his teeth in the ruff and tumble life of Illinois politics. And he made a huge difference. Daley, love him or hate him, will make sure Illinois will go for Obama. Speaking of Daley, has anyone been to Chicago recently, it is truly one of the greatest cities in America if not the world. Daley knows how to get things done, and has avoided controversy.

grew up in Indiana and came to Illinois as a young man. Reagan was born in Illinois and he ran from California. I know all about Lincoln, being in Illinois I studied his life more than any other historical figure. I was thinking that Grant was elected from Ohio but I guess I was wrong although a few places I found say he was the 2nd president from Ohio.

and I never act afraid. That is the problem. My kids have nicknamed me "Brooklyn" because I have the attitude that even when I am terrified nobody knows it. I talk a good game. We use to live in NYC and they still visit family there. They say I remind them of the guys from Brooklyn that act all tough. Back me in a corner and then you better run. ;)

The Rednecks would not do anything to me. They might to her because she is a Latina, but they would have to go over me for that. No, they just give us nasty looks when I open my mouth, or go off on me verbally which I could care less about. I have never got physical with anyone and no one has me either. She is just worried about them doing something to her car.

44. The union was going down the path
To dissolution when he was elected. As was stated in a few posts the Republicans of his day were much like the Democrats of today. And yes too many lives were lost during the Civil War, that weighed heavily on him. Compared to Bush who couldn't care less. The comparison is they thought he was to inexperienced to be president, and correct me if I am wrong, is he not considered one of the greatest Presidents of all time. The south succeeded, not his fault. He had to do whatever it took to keep the union together, do you think he was wrong? That is the comparison, and I stand by it.
