He's not carrying us. We are carrying him, and what makes him different and special is that he GETS THAT. I'll be watching his ass and he better do the people's business like he says he will (which I have faith he WILL do). Of course, watching Obama's ass is NOT an unpleasant chore!

89. Awww, I'm sorry
If it makes you feel any better, I'm an Obama supporter who is probably going to cry if/when Hillary drops out. We had so many great candidates this year, and it was sad to see the others drop out and it will be sad to see her drop out too. I know how much those of you who support Clinton believe in her and have emotionally invested in her campaign and I am sorry that it has to end this way. We have so many passionate Democrats on both sides this year, and it is a shame that one side has to lose. I hope you'll be able to warm up to Obama and become as excited about his candidacy as I am, but I understand that it will take time and I respect that.

19. Camerone!

Background
As part of the French intervention in Mexico, a French army commanded by the Count of Lorencez, was besieging the Mexican city of Puebla, in Puebla state. Fearing a logistical shortage, the French sent a convoy with 3 million francs, matériel, and munitions for the siege. The French Foreign Legion detachment was charged with protecting the convoy, and Captain Danjou assigned the 3rd company of the Foreign Regiment. As the company had no officers, Captain Danjou assumed command.

The Battle
On the 30th of April, at 1 a.m., the 3rd company — 62 soldiers and 3 officers — was en route. At 7 a.m., after a 15-mile march, they stopped at Palo Verde to rest. Soon after, a Mexican Army force of 600 cavalry was sighted. Captain Danjou ordered the company take up a square formation, and, though retreating, he rebuffed several cavalry charges, inflicting the first heavy losses on the Mexican army.

Seeking a more defensible position, Danjou made a stand at the nearby Hacienda Camarón, an inn protected by a 3-metre-high-wall. His plan was to occupy Mexican forces to prevent attacks against the nearby convoy. While his legionnaires prepared to defend the inn, the Mexican commander, Colonel Milan, demanded that Danjou and soldiers surrender, noting the Mexican Army's numeric superiority. Danjou replied: "We have munitions. We will not surrender." He then swore to fight to the death, an oath which was seconded by the men. Around mid-day the Mexicans were increased in size by the arrival of 1,200 infantry.

At noon, Captain Danjou was shot in the chest and died; his soldiers continued fighting despite overwhelming odds under the command of an inspired Lt. Vilain, who held for four hours before falling during an assault. With ammunition exhausted, the last of Danjou's soldiers, numbering only five under the command of Lt. Maudet, desperately mounted a bayonet charge. Two men died outright, while the rest continued the assault. The tiny group was surrounded and literally beaten to the earth. Colonel Milan, commander of the Mexicans, managed to prevent his men from ripping the surviving legionnaires to pieces. When the last two survivors were asked to surrender, they insisted that Mexican soldiers allow them safe passage home, to keep their arms, and to escort the body of Captain Danjou. To that, the Mexican commander commented, "What can I refuse to such men? No, these are not men, they are devils," and, out of respect, agreed to these terms.

That's the articial wooden hand of Capitane Jean Danjou, commander of the Légion étrangère at the Battle of Camerone on April 30, 1863

Rise up fallen fighters

And I know that talk is cheap.
So the hotter the battle
Is the sweeter the victory.

Rise and take your stance again.

90. It IS difficult
But I look at it this way. The path has been made easier for the women to follow.

Sen. Clinton wasn't my choice. I looked at her again when Gen Clark endorsed her, but came to the same conclusion. But I would have voted for her if she was the nominee.

In 2016 when President Obama finishes his second term, there will be a fine crop of women politicians, ready and able to carry their party forward. Who will look at what Sen. Clinton did right - and wrong. Who will follow the path she helped to set.

And one of them WILL be president. And on that day, I can look at my (now six year old) daughter and say "See, you CAN be anything you want to be".

It was not Sen. Clinton's time. A bitter pill, I know. But take comfort that the path for future women has been made easier by her race.

And in the meantime, delight in the defeat the GOP has in store for them this November

93. I wonder sometimes if she has made it easier.
The misogynistic and hateful way she was treated may just have discouraged other woman from even trying...but I hope not.

I also don't see any viable woman waiting in the sidelines. I honestly don't believe we'll have a woman CiC in my lifetime. The time is not right with all the violence and war mongering going on. That's sad!

to take on the fight, wrong person to move the nation forward.. Now, in the future, everyone.. black, white, hispanic, woman, and man will be judged on their merits... Its been an amazing year. Lot's of passion (mine didn't make it as far as I'd like).. it took time. Unfortunately, this late in the game, you won't have as much time to mourn and move on.. its move on time.

She and Obama have opened new horizons. My granddaughter asked me what I would think if she would become the president. She believes she can. That is a wonderful thing.

It has been a difficult campaign, but that's the nature of the beast. Certainly Senator Clinton knew what she would be up against. By coming so very close, she has demonstrated that it is within reach.

I feel the same way even though I am an Obama supporter. I started out this season wishing I could vote for both of them and I have had my moments where Hillary has made me angry but it is going to be sad when she drops out. As a woman, I admit that sometimes I feel guilty that she wasn't my first choice.

112. Thank you....
Thank's so much. Your graciousness is a gift. It's been a tough morning. I got a call from a mighty upset friend who's a Clinton supporter. She was waiting till late tonight when the primaries would be over and had promised to move over then. She tried to post on a Hillary website expressing support for Hillary but also saying people should think twice before parading around saying that they will support McCain in the fall. Her post was mobbed by angry supporters basically saying she was a turncoat and even accusing her of being a plant. She was pretty shook up.

She asked me with "tears" in her voice if we--we collectively--she as a Clinton supporter and myself as an Obama supporter--had somehow "killed" the very thing we were fighting to preserve....the integrity and values of the Democrats. I don't want to believe that but I am very afraid. I'm 60 and have seen a lot of elections, but never one quite like this.

I pray all of us (on both "sides") will show the same courtesy and forethought. There is just too much to lose.

P.S. Seems that the Obama campaign blog is "down". I can't get on there.
