Dear Republican National Committee,

So you have decided to take on the issue of concentration camps and what your spokesperson calls “Obama's frequent exaggerations and outright distortions”. You see Obama said his uncle liberated Auschwitz, but it was really his great uncle and instead of liberating Auschwitz he liberated a different Nazi concentration camp.

You do realize that people died in horrible ways at both of those camps don't you? Do you even realize the horrible suffering that every single person that was locked up in either of those places had to go through? There are still survivors of both of those camps alive today. Obama's uncle is still alive today. There are people who are still haunted every single day of their lives by the things they saw in Ohrdruf, and yet you have the nerve to accuse Obama of “exaggerating”?

Exaggerating.

And this is coming from the party whose leader told us about the massive stockpiles of WMDs that Saddam had.

But even more disturbing, it is also coming from the party that has endorsed torture. It is coming from the party that brought us Abu Ghraib. It is coming from the party that has set up secret prisons around the world, in which people of almost exclusively Arabic descent are being held without access to any lawyers or human rights observers.

For a party that supports locking up people of the Islamic faith in secret prisons to try to draw distinctions between different Nazi concentration camps is not only disgusting, it is also very frightening.

We are not going to let you get by with this bullshit any longer. If you think it is appropriate to accuse Obama of “exaggerating” for mixing up the names of two Nazi concentration camps that people died at, then you are even more disgusting than I thought and believe me that is saying a lot.

Sincerely,

A Citizen

1. The RNC is not only grasping at straws . . .
But is being *seen* grasping at straws and looking desperate, dishonest, and foolish.

Score one for our side.

2. No one in the Republican Party batted an eyelash
...when Ronald Reagan claimed to have liberated a Nazi death camp, even though he never left the safety of the US during WWII.

3. Actually, I remember their reaction to that particular gaffe . . .
and it was more of a bemused shrug of the shoulders and a "You know Ronnie" kind of pained look.

But of course, Reagan was a saint who saved Amurrica from godless communism single-handed.

Or something.
