43. OMG! I WISH I could be 39 again!

When I was 39 (five years ago) I was 30 pounds lighter, I still had a fairly good paying job, Unleaded gasoline was only about $1.59 per gallon and my best friend was still alive, having not yet become addicted to a very dangerous and addictive prescription pain killer (Vicodin), that he did get addicted to, and it did eventually kill him.

It killed him, because Vicodin is a mix of a very high dose of Tylenol (Acetaminophen) mixed with a very addictive form of Codeine (Hydrocodone) that, when mixed with any amount of drinking, destroys your Liver in very little time. It's a very little known problem (to the general public), but very well know to the government and drug company that makes it.

Sorry, I had to get that anti-Vicodin rant in, because not enough people know how dangerous that drug is yet. And, as I'm sure you've guessed by now, I'm over 39, I'm about 6 months away from turning 45, oh goodie.

On edit: Omg, I seriously thought your comment about "other" was a joke, mainly because I only threw it in there as a joke, because if it's not, someone always asks why it's not a choice. Chin up kiddo, 39's not that old, I had much more trouble with 30, but I guess we're all different.

I'm sorry. I lost my best friend to a car accident five years ago. We'd been best friends since I was 11 years old, or for 24 years.

I didn't know that about Vicodin. I can't take the stuff (I'm feeling very fortunate at the moment) because I'm hypersensitive to Codeine and after a bad kidney incident with Acetaminophen I won't touch the stuff again. But I know of so many people who do take it for chronic and episodic pain. I'll be sure and pass on your information to them.

Since it killed my best friend of 32 years, I've sort of been on a crusade against the stuff. Sorry about your friend. I guess it goes without saying but, I know how it feels.

If I could make everyone in this country aware of how dangerous the stuff is, it would make me very happy.

And the mix of Acetaminophen and Ibuprophen that does extra harm and few-even doctors- are aware of this. I feel for your loss, and I applaud you for telling people this.
Me, big car accident, lots of meds offered. I avoid them by nature so I did alright for awhile, until I had extra pain needs due to periodontal work. The Periodondist gave me insturctions to take Vicodin and Tylenol. I suffered hearing loss from it. All of the information about it I found on my own. This is a huge issue and much harm is being done to people for no reason and with no thought.
Last week I saw a neurologist about a few things, and he told me to cease the use of all of those meds, as they enhance high blood pressure, and cancell the positives of the 'aspirin regime' on the circulation. I told him I'd already stopped and he asked why...he agreed across the board, the fist medical pro I have met who was aware of the problems with these 'safe, over the counter' meds.
The ears, the liver are harmed greatly. Doctors often give Vicodan and advise Tylenol or Advil as well. That is never a good thing. Period.
I'm just so glad to know that others are aware of this and spearding the news. Thank you. Your links will be read with great interest, and will be shared with my doctors.
